Got my hands on a few northern variety persimmon trees the other day, got them planted and caged against the deer. Hope this batch works out, my last attempt failed when they froze and died.

I've got a few seeds wintering in the shed right now. I'm going to try growing my own again from seed one more time. I had nearly 200 going strong last spring/summer. Persimmons - Before imgur.com/gallery/LrQ0k

They all died around August. The leaves just fell right off. I think the roots rotted. I'm going to try a better draining soil mix this time.
If any make it, I'm going to plant them with tree tubes. If not, I'm just going to buy some next time.

I have planted 100 a year for the last 4-5 years knowing lots wont make it, but more have survived than I would of thought.

Where did you buy the seeds and how much do they cost? I've got a spot I would like to plant an throng of them. I've got around 1/3 to 1/2 acre that the farmer is currently farming. I may just take it back and plant them there. Sounds like I have a good spot here in a couple years to place a stand.

I bought the trees. They were 2-3 year old. 34 bucks for a 100.

That's the one. I knew I could not water or protect all the trees so I went with pure quantity and was trying to get 15 to 20% that made it. I got lots more than that so far. I am going to with Chestnuts next year www.tn.gov/agriculture/forests/seedlings.html. Someone on here posted this place.
