Just called in the absolutely most gobbling loud mouth Jake I've ever seen. Swore it was a longbeard coming in. If not for it's fan, I'd swear it lost half it's beard.

We had birds gobbling all over this morning. Just couldn’t get one in close enough for a shot.

My ten year old son shot his first turkey today in Switzerland County. Tom came in quiet at full strut right to the decoys. My son is very excited.

We just couldn’t quite get to the field edge. Just not enough foliage to keep us hidden.

Finally sealed the deal at 2:30. After calling the super Jake in and my boy letting him walk we moved around quite a bit on the property. Heard some and had some answer but couldn't seal it. Started messing with one about 1 across the property line. He was across the valley and up the other side. No way he was coming but it wasted some time, kept him interested and maybe call another in. He'd answer every cut but never came closer than couple hundred yards. Decided to climb up to the logging road and move. I always suffle my feet in the leaves because I've had several in years past answer the sound thinking turkey is scratching. We hit the logging road and didn't walk 20 steps and had one gobble close. Sat down quick and started cutting at him and he had already closed the distance just from the leaf scratching. Seen him pop out and started coming. First one noticed quick was a Jake. He was about ten yards just staring at us. I seen the longbeard pop out and start coming toward us. I was sitting behind my boy and waited until the bird got in front of the Jake. Asked him you want him to gobble. Tells me yeah, can't shoot him in strut. I threw a cut at him and he let loose a thunderous gobble right in our face. He didn't get a chance to pull his head back. He's 7 for 7. This is actually the longest hunt he's had. Shortest was 9 minutes outside the truck. Every one bigger than my biggest. He owes me. Got my buddy to go, daughter, and another buddies kid yet.

To add, just for fun we decided to try the "oysters". Glad I got that out of my system. The video of him eating it is priceless.

Hunted with my 12 year old grandson both mornings unfortunately Saturday morning there was an issue with a trespasser and since I am a guest on this property and the owners of the lease were on Lake Erie fishing I did not deal with this problem, also I didn't want to confront this person in front of a youth. I know the person and so do the men who lease this land because they just spoke with him 2 weeks ago when they caught him scouting out this property. Sunday morning we heard a couple gobble at a distance and we saw one fly up into a tree, we had a hen run across a 1/4 mile of open field and spend approx. 1 hour in our decoys. We saw about a dozen deer from a few yards away to across a field, we were serenaded by sandhill cranes, geese, woodpeckers and numerous song birds plus we ate good just no Tom Turkeys. It's always great spending time with a youth especially when it's your grandson.
