Been at work and haven't been able to get any hunting in for last few weeks. Got in last night and hit the woods this morning. Went with two hunting buddies and my youngest boy. Buddies dog struck this dude and the rest of the dogs got there and put the brakes on him. Hog run us all around the briar patch with the bulldog hanging off his ear. Definitely got the heart pumping. Ha.

All my buddies wanna talk about is all the hogs they planning on killing. Pretty sure they have absolutely no idea what they are getting themselves into. Great group of guys that live for hound hunting but not a one has ever seen a hog let alone killed one. Pretty sure they know they are bigger than bunnies but that's about it. Alot of "I'm gonna do this, I'm gonna do that". Betting alot of , I'm gonna, will change once they walk up on the first caught hog. Be alot of pure gentlemanly, you go ahead and you go first. I guarantee you it'll be a laugh riot for you. Between us there isn't any point we aren't harassing each other about something or another.

How do you keep up with your dogs? Do you chase them on wheelers or just wait till they have a hog trapped and than go in like they do with cats and bears

Sometimes it's a 100yd walk. Sometimes it's a mile.

I had a guy with me the other day on his first hog hunt with dogs. He made it to both bays but was perfectly content taking pictures. LOL. I have seen a few guys that are all in from the beginning but not many. When I first started I was definitely cautious. Big Boar hog is not something you want to mix it up with. Make sure you have a bulldog or two hanging off ears and grab a back leg. Once you get a leg it's all over but the crying.

I don't even take a gun. One of my friends carries a pistol but I have only seen him use it a couple of times in five years. We grab them and throw them down. Then we stab them or load them up in trailers. Some mornings we will leave hogs tied up all over the woods. Then spend the afternoon picking them up.

I may need a bigger knife.

I use a regular sized pocket knife but those big bowie knives work great. One of the guys I hunt with has a knife that's got a 12 inch blade 2 inches wide with tree saw teeth on one side. Works as good or better than any others I have seen. Said he paid less than 20 for it.

Went this morning with a good buddy of mine. This guy got me started several years ago. After a couple of big circles turned up empty one of his gyps bumped this dude. They other dogs went to her and they got him shut down. Had both our bulldogs and they hit as pretty as could be. Should have been video taping, but with just two of us we were pretty busy.

Good to see you're still putting them down, even in the summer heat!
