As I was walking in the house about 8pm I heard the distinct calling of snow geese flying over. We had an unexpected, large number show up last year during a massive storm along the East coast. I was hoping they would return, but a little surprised as well. Greensburg sits well away from any major historical flyway so birds like this are always a treat.

I saw about 200 Canadian geese and 50 snows in the middle of a picked cornfield on my way home from work on Friday.

Had 300 fly by us today while hunting. I estimated them to be about 20 miles high though

Heard a lot of snows last year but nothing yet this one. I've never seen any on the ground around where I live until yesterday before the storm. Was neat to see them circle and land. By i-65 north of whiteland.

I saw a flock at 135 and hwy 44 a few days ago. I actually slowed down as I didn't believe they were snows.

I was driving at the right time yesterday and saw about 500 come up off the ponds at Honda. With several spring fed ponds having open water and very little snow covering thousands of acres of grain fields, I don't see them leaving any time soon.

Saw a ton of geese yesterday flying on the river. But the hunters who are usually in the fields and at the boat ramp were gone. That’s the way it works for me deer hunting. Always should have been here yesterday.

Hi all, this is Sarah Bowman with the Indy Star. I recently heard about some detection of Avian Cholera in waterfowl in Indiana, specifically over in the Gibson County area. Several hundred birds (mostly snow geese) have been found dead in the last couple months.
Is this something anyone has seen? Experienced? Have concerns about?
Let me know, feel free to respond here or email me (sarah.bowman@indystar.com) or give me a call (317-294-7221).
Thanks!
