Crossbows suck! Y'all are a bunch of short-cut taking, mamby-pamby tofu eaters with questionable politics! Just kidding. In point of fact, I might have to join the ranks of the string-rifle toters out of necessity. My right shoulder is messed up, and is showing no signs of improvement. Thinking about picking up a cheaper/mid-grade model of some sort for this season. I'm out of my element. Any features you insist upon? Things to avoid? Tips? Good experiences? Bad? Any info appreciated! Thanks guys!

Look at Woodys post below about the Invader. It is a heck of a bow and that is a great deal.

If you want a good economical crossbow, check out the Barnett Recruit package, approx. $250. Quite accurate out to 45 yards and it's pretty small and lightweight compared to the fancy ones.

Get something that feels good when you shoulder it. And make sure it has a good (lifetime) warranty, the limbs are subject to a LOT of stress & do break at the worst time.

Another vote for the Recruit compound package. I bought this crossgun due to its small size and small price tag. Plenty of power and quite accurate.

I bought a Barnett a couple of years ago and learned a few things about them. They are an entry level crossbow that has good customer service. The bad thing is, they have to. After I had a couple of problems in a short time, I took it back and got a Carbon Express. I have had zero issues with it and was told by the retailer he has never had to send a Carbon Express back to the manufacturer. It is heavier than the Barnett was, but I will take the extra weight as a trade off for reliability.

First off, its still a bow. Bow speed, bow distance, bow accuracy. Got to say it. Lol.
I am a 5yr crossbow shooter. Done tons of reading first. I would skip the Barnett, go for the Wicked Ridge line. That will be the most bang for your buck. Or, a used Excalibur. Both are the safest bet in crossbows for the lower end of pricing today. As usual, you get what you pay for. Faster fps, more problems. 300-350fps, less problems by far.

I took my buck this year with a Wicked Ridge Invader G3. The package is a great value and it will get the job done!
