I am. I will be hunting with my .44mag carbine for sure. You think that's legal? Of course it is. We all know that.

No, it's not. Not this year. Not unless something changes.

I saw a uniformed CO this morning at a charity event and asked him. Yes, the official law prohibits use of any rifle use on public land, including centerfire. He does not think that was the intent, but the language got jumbled up and this is what we are stuck with for at least this season. He anticipates very lose enforcement of previously allowed centerfire rifles except at state parks. Personally, he is only issuing verbal warnings and will not issue a citation unless he remembers already giving that person a warning. There's no way I would carry a pcr on public ground this year unless this is somehow changed. It isn't worth the potential legal issues IMO. I do have a question though.... Would a youth hunter who killed a deer on public ground this youth season with a pcr have been in violation of the law? Will the summons be addressed to me or my 12 year old? Lol We were out both evenings on state ground with a big scary rifle...

We all know that pcr is legal and just because some politicians created a mess doesn't change a thing. It's their mess, let them clean it.

Also, if we are to take the word "Rifle" in this particular piece of IC code and extrapolate that it supersedes all other pieces of IAC code, then muzzle loading rifles are no longer legal at all during the firearms season because they do not meet the specifications spelled out in this IC code. Plus this IC code shut down muzzleloader season on public land. The IC code posted is only talking "Rifles" in firearms season. Still takes out muzzle loading rifles.

I hardly think you'll be issued a summons, but it might have been a bit of a downer for a CO to hand a dad a ticket for his kid using an "outlawed" firearm...LOL. The point being....this kind of stuff is ridiculous and the firearms season may be a long one for both COs and hunters.

If this does not change I am not sure what I will do. It seems to me that the Legislature cannot get anything right. I may just go squirrel hunting with my Marlin 44 mag.

Just got off the phone with one DNR contact. No, no rifles will be legal on any State Owned property this season including the State Parks.
The Federal Military/Refuge properties may or may not allow them. That is completely dependent upon the property.
He will be looking into the verbage in the law to determine if it outlaws muzzleloaders or not.
The DNR saw it, it didn't get fixed. They have been working on it for quite some time, but this is what we are stuck with for this year.
All because a couple Legislators wanted a change the DNR didn't give them. Simply amazing.

Would Hoosier National forest fall under the rules of state properties or is it exempt from Indiana laws and regs?

Anyone know where there not followed in Indiana? Don't some military bases have their own restrictions? Big Oaks has their "special hunts", right? I've never been there but I thought they had a muzzleloader hunt in October or Early November.
