Just curious if anyone has done this or knows of someone that has. Our septic is in the middle of the woods so they had to clear a pretty big area for it. They planted grass, but I'm thinking of throwing some clover in it. Everything I've read said clover would be fine, but wanted to see if anyone had any first hand experience.

I have clover growing wild on my field bed, don't see why it wouldn't work.

I never planted anything over it but I can tell you EVERYTHING in the woods used to come to the green patch in the yard over it. EVERYTHING! Turkey, deer, squirrels, and everything that ate all of those guys. It was the best bait pile you never planted. Until we got a dog. He put a stop to all that and it's never been that good since.

I would not routinely till and disturb soil over the area, but a one time planing of clover and then keeping it in good shape via periodic mowing, frost seeding, and spraying for grass infiltration wouldn't hurt anything. It's actually a very good use of any area you can't do much else with.

I would not drive equipment of any size (tractor) or you risk collapsing your leach line. Frost seeding clover seems like a good idea and wouldn't cause any problems.

Can't imagine this would be a problem unless you are talking about extremely heavy equipment. Most people drive over their leech fields every time they cut the grass.

Got soybeans/corn over mine every year.

My in-laws just had their woods logged out this past spring, and they're now digging up a line right where the trucks came through. I never put the 2 and 2 together but it makes sense.

The only equipment I'll have on it is the mower, so I may just give this a try.
