I know this has probably been discussed a bunch but I thought I would see if there is any new opinions. I know a few years back there were some changes or discussions that were saying what was in your freezer did not count towards possession limits. Is this true? If so, since your daily limit on squirrels is 5 and the possession limit is double that, would you be able to kill 10 in one day since that would meet your possession limit or does the daily limit trump the possession limit? I found a few things talking about field possession? Does anyone know anymore on this? I am not interested in being a game hog, I have trouble getting my daily limit most days anyway. Just a topic for conversation.

As far as I know the Daily limit is the limit for a day and the possession limit is the limit you're aloud to have in the house at 1 time and once you reach the possession limit you're suppose to eat some before going hunting again.

That has always been my thoughts too but I have read a few things saying that what was in your freezer no longer counted towards possession limit. I will have to look deeper to find out.

I peraonally take it to mean you can shoot 5 squirrels a day, but you can only have 10 in your vehicle. Going from the woods.
I can tell you my freezer does not recognize possession limits.

14 forums down will get you the answer you are looking for, or not. I'm pretty sure, been wrong before, but possession limit is what you have possession on. Whether that be in your pocket or freezer.

(d) The possession limit does not apply to a wild animal that is processed and stored at an individual's primary residence, except for waterfowl and migratory game birds.

If he ask me, it was a world record bass.

"processed"Is the key word..... don't ever think a CO don't have a right to look in your freezer when the time comes!

Daily bag limit is how many you can kill in a day, you can only kill 5 squirrels in one calendar day.

I don't know of much edible stuff that goes into a freezer that isn't "processed"..
I do believe this regulation was changed a few years back or maybe just clarified..

I'm thinking several years ago this was a huge issue. I seem to remember several arguments about it not being clarified. Maybe that's why it was changed. I know it wasn't always this way.

Guessing that's why the law says "processed" Have heard of folks freezing whole game but only for keeping the hides.... fish are another story gut them and freeze them some do.
