Well, the gravel of 12 tons showed up just now. I only needed around 6 tons and asked for 8 tons. Now I have 12 tons. It's a day early. Now I have some fill to raise the grading. I guess I will mix the extra gravel with the clay and then top 1-2 inches of top soil. I will have good drainage. Luckily my wife was home to direct the driver where to dump the load after calling me a few times at work.

I receive the last of the material (block, caps corner blocks). Started on the steps and last row of Geo-Grid. Worked from 8am to 9pm with little to show. No help yesterday and progress was slow. I'm putting up a fence that I removed from my mom's pool last year before filling it in. I spent time getting it out and cleaning it up etc.. I will be back on it tonight and tomorrow. Sunday heading to the Friendship flew market (Friendship, IN). If you are there and see someone stiff and moving slow, that's me.

Man, you don't know what slow is until you've seen me work. I'm so slow that the vultures circle me. It's going to get HOT this coming week. If I work at all, I'll be in first gear ...well I guess I'm always in first gear.

Deer are amazing. Last night the deer walked through the mounds of dirt, rock, wood and between pallets of block to eat the flowers of the Tiger Lilly flowering around my pond. Nothing gets in their way. They went through the construction zone. Still using the path that is now dirt, gravel and rock. The bobcat leaks hydraulic oil and that is on the path. I guess the deer are hungry!

Steps are finished, except filling in the gap of the steps and wall. Can do that anytime will some concrete filler.

The wall is almost finished. Short 6 blocks, but my son's friend has extra from their job site and I'm trading extra caps that I have for the blocks. Win-Win. The fence is up and we moved the dirt that I had from last year to start filling in the yard and leveling it off. I need 8 more tons of gravel and put on the cap blocks. I will need to cut each cap around the bend. It might take me a week to rest-heal up. Worked 7am to 9pm today. This picture is from the corner near the steps. This one is below the wall. Steps completed.

Tom, it is looking great!!! It would take me at least a year or two to do it ...well, I really couldn't do it; those look like some big blocks.

Fantastic job. I don't think I have that kind of patients to make a wall like that. We did a small one 5 yrs ago and felt like a rock star...more like a one hit wonder! You are the led zepplin caliber!

You are the led zepplin caliber! Duff, right on. Jammed on led Zepplin, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, Rush, Yes, The Who, Guess Who, Hank Williams Jr, Black Keys, Steffenwolf, and a few more of my favorite christian bands mixed in.

Just ordered my last 8 tons of gravel and it will be here Thursday and receiving the 6 blocks this evening. YEA!
I smoothed out 12" wide path near the bottom of the slope below the wall just in front of the woods line near where the old path was. Now, I just need the weeds (thickest) to start growing back. I'm going to throw some oats in mid August to help out. The deer should take this path right to my stand this fall.

I don't think I have to worry about getting an itch for a project that big; I couldn't afford it. You sure are saving a lot of money doing it yourself ...unless you break your back doing it. :-)

I don't think I have to worry about getting an itch for a project that big; I couldn't afford it. You sure are saving a lot of money doing it yourself ...unless you break your back doing it. :-) My best friend Mark ordered all the materials at his contractor price . He owns a high end landscaping company for 30 plus years. Saved a lot, and I paid $846 to use both the escalator for a week and bobcat for three plus weeks. This includes the fuel-time using the two. It should be around 1/3rd cost of company building the wall. Estimated Cost: Block/Caps = $2100-$2300 (440 blocks & 100 caps) Gravel = $600-$700 Labor/Equipment = $846 (final) Topsoil 6 tons free so far. Good chance I will get more in the next couple month. I hope to have extra to spread on the food plot. Fence was free. It's from my mom's pool that we filled in last year. I removed it the night before the pool being bulldozed and filled in. This was the estimated cost before project start. I saved around $10-12K. I didn't cost in the pain pills and feeding four young man (three sons and youngest son's friend)

Just when I start to feel productive for planting some tomatoes, you have to come along and make me look bad.
What a project! Five stars!
