Wife's nephew accidentally took a bad mix of otc drugs that had a terrible reaction. Make a long story short he is in ICU now basically paralyzed from the neck down. He was taken out of ICU for several hours today and had to be taken back in because he was having trouble breathing. Doctors are hopeful that the lungs aren't failing but at this point they aren't sure. Unfortunately they don't think he is going to regain function throughout his body. Anything you can send up would be appreciated.

Oh, that's bad. Not sure that I've heard of this before. I have some that will lower my blood pressure to a fatal level if mixed, some start and some stop my heart, but permanent paralyses is new to me. Sounds like prayers are certainly needed.
I will pray for him and the family.

He on and off can feel the pressure of the blankets on his legs. Best news was he actually moved one of his toes today. Not a spine surgeon but I'd say that would mean that the brain to foot is still firing. Unfortunately he is still having problems with his breathing and heart rate. It stabilizes then they have issues with it. Took him in for an MRI today to see if they can see any issues with disc or vertibrae. Now for the whole story. What actually happened was he was prescribed Adderall. He took that and took a Tylenol 4 that he wasn't prescribed because he had a migraine headache. For some reason he took a Valium, why I don't know. With taking all of that he started itching from the interaction so he took a Benadryl. After that he stood up and best we can tell he passed out. When he passed out his body stiffened up like a board and when he fell he landed flush on his chin. The fall jarred his spine like whiplash. That's what caused the damage. While he was laying on the floor he kept banging his chin against the floor trying to get his downstairs neighbors attention, all the whole doing more damage. Unfortunately what happened was a 1 in a million chance. If he landed half an inch either way he would have either knocked some teeth out or broke his nose. It's a bad situation and even if he gets better it's going to be a long road ahead. I've chewed him up and down about him playing doctor. Kids extremely smart, graduated early and was even excepted to Rose Hullman college. Problems is he isn't as smart as he thinks he is and now has to face the consequences. It's a rough lesson to learn but hopefully the outcome will be good and he'll learn.

It sure sounds like a freak thing to me. Is he allergic to any of those meds?
