I used the Ruger 308 last year and will again next season. Don't need it last year.

I'll be using my 358 WSSM, spent big bucks when it was the few that were legal, and going to keep using it.

My 1 yr old 243 ruger...pretty exotic for an Indiana guy who came from a non hunting family.

Single shot h&r 30-30 for me. It would be nice to have one of the more powerful rifles but what I'm using is plenty of gun for where I'll be hunting.

The only new addition to an already crowded field of choices would be a 7-08 for me. Not really exciting or unique, just another option.

As A young man in the early 70's I envisioned the day that Indiana would allow rifles for deer hunting. With that thought in mind I enlisted the talents of a local rifle builder to create a custom 7MM Remington Magnum rifle on a Mauser 98 action and mount a set of "double-set" triggers to fine tune the shots. I never dreamed that the first opportunity I would have to hunt deer with it in Indiana would find the rifle 45 years old and find me almost in my 70's! Things change...but some things change VERY SLOWLY. See you in the woods, BOB

Well, correct me if I'm wrong. Very good chance of that, mind you, but private property is the only place you can use high powered rifles right? Or can you use them on public ground as well?

What would y'all recommend as a good entry-level rifle? I hunt exclusively with a muzzleloader now, but I'm thinking a rifle would be a nice addition. Thanks!

If I'm understanding correctly you are looking for an inexpensive gun (which is OK); Savage Axis or Ruger American. Don't skimp on the scope though

For most of the state of Indiana you already have everything covered with the muzzleloader.
