Well..
I used to have my Mathews set up to shoot 70-75 pounds but after having injured my right shoulder and having it re-constructed, I had to drop down to 55-60. That can STILL be a slight struggle on cool, damp mornings since I have arthritis in it now.
I have taken 14 deer since my surgery and they told me I was most likely DONE BOWHUNTING. If I had to drop down more poundage..I would do it just to enjoy a few more years of bowhunting.
I would rather hunt with a 40 lb. bow with RAZOR SHARP broadheads and place the arrow in the "VITALS," than to hunt with an 80 lb. bow with a dull broadhead.
LET'S GO HUNTING!!! Bud Fields

62 lbs. is about the max that my bad shoulder can handle. Time was when 72 lbs. was comfortable & smooth with 50% let-off.

50 pounds. My buddy and I are "recurvin' it" for the first time this year. We are having a blast practicing with the traditional bows and believe it will put some new twists on our passion......bowhunting!

Im shooting 68# atm. I can remember when I was youn and phony tough, I had a Pearson spoiler and shot 92# all summer long. When hunting season came, the first time I got cold in my stand, I couldn't budge the string. That night I turned it down to 82#. Now that I'm older and smarter (quiet Chico), I shoot a more reasonable weight. Plus, with the increased performance out of the newer bows, I'm probably getting the same level of performance at 68# as I did at 82#!

IIRC, I pull 64 pounds and hold 35 with the old Martin I use. I think I could up the poundage some but don't see the need.
