The 2 houses are about to exchange bills this week. Fortunately, it appears only a couple of bills made the cut and will proceed.
SB256 is a Senate bill that allows non-voting members of the Benjamin Harrison trust to actually attend meetings and vote. Really an oversight in my opinion. Passed Senate 48-0
HB1415 is a House bill generated by DNR to clean up statutes and make mminor changes. OF interest in this bill is modification of the rifle rule which will include anything from.243 and up as a legal rifle caliber. Passed House 81-7
HB1089 is a House bill that restricts local governments regarding timber sales. Prohibits a unit (a county, city, town, or township) from regulating the sale or removal of merchantable timber from private property. Prohibits a unit from charging a person who sells or removes merchantable timber from private property a fee or requiring a bond for a road cut or other access to a highway that exceeds a fee or bond that the unit requires for new commercial construction. The county in question is Monroe County and their restrictive attempts to prevent landowners from harvesting timber. Paased House 69-25

HB1415 passed Senate committee with no dissentions. I'm surprised. According to what I heard there were a couple issues. No upper limit on calibers and loss of DNR revenue with the lower vet license cost.

Not yet - that was just the committee.

Not yet - that was just the committee. My mistake. I assume it goes back to the Senate for a full vote next?

Yes, the full Senate will vote on it.

Indiana Wildlife Federation did object to no upper limit on cartridges and amendment was passed that sent bill back to appropriations because the vet license was going to cost ~ $600k to the DNR. The bill likely will still pass without any changes to the rifle section. The vet license will likely be modified to what already exists.

Jack,
How much money does a license have to cost for the Fed money to match it?
TIA..

The Senate Appropriations Committee has scheduled a hearing for HB 1415 (along with 6 other bills). The hearing starts Thursday March 23 at 9:00 AM in Room 431. HB 1415 is listed number 6 by numerical order. I do not know for sure if that is the order for the bills to be heard.

Does stripping the veterans' license amendment require that the House revote on the bill? Or is the Senate the final step (assuming no Senate amendments)?

Does stripping the veterans' license amendment require that the House revote on the bill? Or is the Senate the final step (assuming no Senate amendments)? You may have misinterpreted my post. My understanding is that the Senate Appropriations Committee passed the bill out of their committee without making any amendments. So, the bill now goes to the full Senate as they received it from the Senate Natural Resources Committee. The way I read it the bill's language giving disabled veterans a significant price break on licenses is still in the bill. However, I do not claim to be an expert in these matters. Perhaps hatchetjack will weigh in on this.In searching back through the online information it now appears to me that the Senate Natural Resources Committee did indeed amend the bill on March 13 by deleting the proposed disabled veterans price break on licenses. Thus, the bill went to the Senate Appropriations Committee without the disabled veterans benefit. So, the bill now going to the full Senate does not contain the disabled veterans benefit. If the bill passes the full Senate, it would seem that it would then have to go to a conference committee of the Senate and House to work out differences. Thanks to M4Madness for your comments in your following post, which resulted in my taking a better look at the history of HB 1415.

Okay, I read your post to mean that the amendment was stripped before being sent to the Senate. I thought I read something in the Senate Natural Resources Committee report after their hearing that part of the bill was amended in committee, but didn't study it to see what was affected.
