When should I spray the grass in a Prarie planting? There is some creeping in and it is green now. Was thinking I could spray the field when it warms up and isn't raining. Is that a waste of time?

I'd wait till March when the cool season has broken dormancy for sure Or after it greens after a February burn or if you don't have much spray it now an See if you kill it if it's growing you will kill it !!
Glyphosate cheap and you won't hurt the WSG till April or so if then go for it thing is sprayers
Thing is sprayer will freeze up that's a pia sometimes taking care of that when your done

I will wait for it to warm up. I don't have much so may try it several times up to April. I couldn't remember what you had told me before.

 ? My prairie plantings are grass, so chemicals like Clethium (spelling?) that I spray to control grass in my clover patches would kill the prairie grass too. Use caution. Typically prairie grass grows thick enough that it chokes out most of the other stuff. Best thing I've found for it is to burn it off every few years. |

Mine is just kicking off and I only tilled up the area prior to planting. I noticed clumps of green grass clumps and figured I would spray with glyphosate before the desirable plants start growing.

In your case Duff I'd spray it as I saw it till the WSG breaks dormancy no big deal in your case !! I'd throw down seed now if you want thicker Rabbit type grass fields Indian grass and switch grass will do best
For a bedding area the WSG will choke unwanted out in time.. Best time then is after a burn for control of unwanted s
In Wildlife and bird habitats you will have more forbs than grass ..Spot spraying fits the bill then ..the newer WSG recommended Rates are less than five lbs. pls pet acre , that's thinner than you might think ..Calls for different management plans
