Was wondering if anybody out there hunts with handguns for deer? If so what caliber? Ive watched Ted nugent and razor Dobbs kill a lot of deer with 10mm, so this is the caliber I was leaning towards now that it is a legal round here. Experiences?

I hunt with a 44 mag in a Blackhawk. And a 308 in a T.C. Encore. The Blackhawk is a little more handy out of my climber because the Encore about has to have a solid rest. Now off a rest like my tower stand that I built just for that reason. It's a killer.

Get yourself a nice revolver in .44, .454, or .460. If you want another option go for a TC Encore pistol in .270, 7mm-08, .25-06, or 6.5 Creedmoor.

A few years back I hunted with a Savage Striker, in .243. It was very accurate but awfully unwieldy in the woods. I much preferred the S&W 629 .44 mag.
I no longer hunt with handguns. Mainly due to ageing eyes.

Scoped contender in 243 would do it out to 200 yards My next will be a blackhawk in 44 though

I've been using handguns since I started hunting them back in the 80's. Started out with a .357 mag. but didn't get any with it. Then went to a New Model Super Blackhawk 44 mag. and got several with it. Then went to a T/C G2 Contender in .35 Rem. and got several with it. I've got a Desert Eagle 44 mag. now too but need to get a holster for it. I've actually taken more deer with handguns than any other way I believe.

If you reload you may want to consider a single shot or revolver. I bet the 10MM flings brass all over the place.

I've killed 3 deer with a Taurus .44 mag revolver with the 8 3/8" barrel and open sights. 2 deer dropped and the other ran about 100 yards before going down. I enjoy hand gun hunting. It's nice to sit in a tree without holding a long gun.

I have killed somewhere around 30 with a TCS Encode in .308 with a Burris variable scope. Left it at home this year and used my Winchester 70 in 30-06

Good year as my landowner friend did well also. Thanks for asking.

Same one then. Miss that gun! I shot one of these when I was a teenager. Years later I decided I had to have one. It took me a while to locate one for sale. I won't let it go. I can hit a gallon jug of water at 40 yards with the open sights.

Loved mine. Didn't like the double action trigger pull, but cocked shooting single action it was a great shooter.
