Or pistol S&W model 29, 44 magnum with 10 & 7/8 barrel with adjustable sights. I can always get one of my buddies 4570 Earl Keller pistols.

Either the trusty Rem 870 deer slayer or a .357 mag. I'd love to use grandpas 270 Rem 700, but the geniuses in the state legislature won't let me.

A .45 TC Hawken, or a .50 TC Renegade! Only need one shot to make meat

I shoot a Savage 110 in 30-06 topped with a Vortex Viper 4x16x44. If I get home for firearms it will be the one. I have taken animals out to 390m with it and love the way it shoots. I shoot 180gr Federal Trophy Bondeds

I'll be using my tried and true Marlin 1894 lever action in .44 magnum. I took my first PCR deer with it 10 minutes after legal shooting time on opening morning the first year we were allowed to hunt with PCR's. So far I've recovered every deer I've shot with it since, so there's no reason to give it up.

Used my Ruger American .308 already. Has gotten too cold for my daughter to enjoy going, so I will be starting to pack the .300 Blackout AR. If I carry over to muzzleloader season, I have a new .45 700ML smokeless that was not completed early enough to use last year.

Was it a custom build or was it offered by it's manufacture? I have been interested in a muzzle loader which uses smokeless powder. Currently I am using a T/C Black Diamond .50 Cal. using a .451"-.452" sabot bullet with F.F.G. Triple Seven powder. Thanks!

Started as a factory 700ML and had a Shilen .458 fitted to it with an Arrowhead bushing breechplug. Can shoot saboted .40 or sabotless .452 that has been run through a sizing die. Load right now is a 250 Monoflex muzzleloading bullet at 2606 fps. Rifle is very heavy (13# I think) and absorbs a lot of recoil. Poke around the Savage muzzleloader/smokeless muzzleloader section of Doug's Message boards. LOTS of info!!

The custom rifle you had built sounds interesting; fact that it weighs 13 pounds sounds like it's a "Kicker", but still a great smokeless M/L.

If you look for a Savage Muzzleloader anyplace where they sell used guns, those are rated to use smokeless powder.

They all will if not used correctly.

Partly why mine is so heavy. Very heavy contour barrel with no screw holes gives an extra measure of safety. Double load might ruin the barrel, but it won't ruin me!

They all will if not used correctly. Guess so. Maybe this writer over-loaded his Savage, or used the wrong type powder.

If you look for a Savage Muzzleloader anyplace where they sell used guns, those are rated to use smokeless powder. I read somewhere that Savage's smokeless powder muzzle loader blew-up on an outdoor writer & shooter. Yes it did. It only did that after he was dropped as a spokesperson for Savage, and when the barrel was looked at closely, there was traces of copper showing on the rifling. If you saw a picture of the gun, there is no way that the outdoor writer could have been uninjured if he was holding the gun in his hands when it let go. IF a sabot was used and surrounding the bullet, how did copper get transferred to the lands/grooves of the barrel? I'm not saying that there was excessive powder in the gun, along with an single or multiple improperly loaded projectiles to simulate a bore obstruction, but there are a LOT of unanswered questions about that incident. Guys have shot their ramrods out of the same gun along with the bullet and have not had any damage to the gun, others have had a bulged barrel. I have heard of a few that blew up, but when push comes to shove it was found that there were either double powder charges, bullets not seated on the powder (causing a barrel obstruction) or the wrong powder used (too fast of a burn rate). Just like reloading for rifle, pistol or shotgun shooting, there are people that should NOT use anything other than a factory loaded cartridge, and those people should NOT be using a muzzleloader either. I was told that Savage Muzzleloader barrels were tested to 110,000 psi. Lets see any other muzzleloader mfg make that claim. I've been shooting one for about 14-15 years now, and have both a .50 cal and a .45 cal. The .50 cal shoots a 250g Hornady SST bullet at roughly 2300 fps and works very well on deer to about 200 yds. I have down loaded it for my 12 yr old nephew to shoot deer, using a double sabot and 200g SST bullet. I loaded it so it had 900 fpe at 100 yds. Like a bb gun to shoot. I can also load it up, using a duplex powder charge to .458 Win Mag performance levels using 300-350 grain Barnes bullets. My .45? I re-barreled it with a Pac-Nor .45 cal barrel. I shoot a 195g Barnes bullet at around 2800 - 2850 fps MV, and it has enough oomph to take deer out to 400 yds if I can read the wind correctly. 2" high at 100 yds, dead on at 200 yds, 10" low at 300 yds. It is still going roughly 1500 fps and still has approximately 900 fpe at 400 yds.

Was able to seal the deal with my left handed 870 I bought last year. I sure am not sure why i didn't have one before. Then a few days later I was able to take it pheasant hunting. It is such a multi tasker. Got a new deer gun gonna try to get the bugs worked out of and see if it will kill me some deer.
