Is anyone hunting early seeing coyotes? I had two come by this morning so I shot one. Maybe thats why I'm not seeing any deer. They have been bad here in vanderburgh county for the last couple years.

Ive never shot a yote. Used to be very pro "eat what you kill".
Now that I have a better understanding of the predator/prey balance, Ill kill them if I see them, or if a farmer asks me to eradicate some. Otherwise im typically too busy with deer to bother.

I just googled coyotes reducing deer population, and one study done by the QDMA collared 60 fawns one spring, six weeks later 35 were killed by coyotes, 13 by bobcat and 7 unknown death. The study said if you do not have a coyote problem now on your property you will shortly. The reason given was fur prices so low no one is killing them. Guess I'm killing any coyote I see within bow range.

By the way, should get a half point for a coyote kill in the contest, right Dennis? LOL

I think you should get two points. One for the future fawn and it's young the next year. I shot everyone I see during yokes season.

Seen several last year without getting a shot. This year, I'm prepared. I will be packing a suppressed 22 pistol. Head shots out to 50 yards no problem.

I've sacrificed more than one deer hunt to shoot a coyote, and I won't hesitate to do it again. Most people fail to recognize that Coyotes have no natural predators in Indiana. So, cars and bullets are the only things they need to worry about.

Well unfortunately these coyotes came through about 6:30 am, so I shot the last one at about 30 yards and left him lay till I got down at 9:30. Arrow passed thru and stuck in the dirt. Figured my hunt was done then but held out hope a doe might pass by.

I also hunt vanderburgh hunt the northern part about a mile below reduction zone off st. Joe avenue and I have also seen a couple coyotes. IHave not got a shot at one but I know it's early but deer sightings and pictures are down especially doe pics. Guess the coyotes and the 10 deer limit on reduction zone is working....smh

I remembered hearing two LEO's had access to it. Youre pretty lucky! I had a buddy that lived there on the corner of vienna and whatever diamond is called out there......till he got divorced and she got the house.

I got my permission from the guy who owns the tower there, my youngest son works in that business. This guy owns 2800 towers and has property all over the place, working on other areas, one around Reo IN..

It doesn't matter what I'm hunting. If a coyote strolls by, it becomes a coyote hunt. I'd shoot a pack on opening morning of firearms season if I saw them.

I saw 8 last year on a hunt, had 4 run past my tree on both sides. It was bow season so I did not get a shot, they were on the run. I've killed counting today 4 total during the seasons. 3 with bow, one deer slug.
