There's a good reason why the aliens have never abducted me ...they don't want my genes in their pool.

Could just be from an injury vs genetic

If he is the first one to get in bow range YES. If he is the second, no. as your buck tag would be filled.

That is a 1-1/2 year old buck with the first antler(s) he's ever grown. Those young bucks are dummies, good chance he banged up that damaged antler early in development. I see lots of goofy antlered 1-1/2 year olds.
Further, if it is damage that caused it, his genetics are unchanged. Good chance that buck Woodmaster is photographed with had an injury that resulted in one antler being weird, but that doesn't mean he didn't produce trophy quality offspring

Personally unless you have a very large track of land it is nearly impossible to control genetics. I to trophy hunt and as a general rule we don't shoot any bucks these days under 130", which is usually a minimum of 3.5 to 4.5 year old age class.. Hard to say if this deer was injured during antler growth or has a genetic abnormality. May turn into a freak with age? Do you have older buck's exhibiting this abnormality?? If not it is probably a result of injury and won't have any effect would be my best bet.

Yeah on one hand not trophy hunter and just want a 3.5 year old but other hand don't want a 3.5 old with one antler...merely pointing out the oddity is all. 😆 I'm not the only one that owns and hunts the property. My desire to not have one antlered bucks wasn't strictly for myself. I think we have different definitions of a trophy hunter. Okay let me lay it out, as I think you've taken offense to what I said: First, trophy never entered the issue really. One sentence you say: I am happy with anything 3.5 years or older Each hunter is different but I share this thought as well, age is pretty much the entirety of my decision to harvest. Then you state: I don't want a bunch of one antlered bucks running around in a few years if he passes this trait on. If all one cares about is age for defining a trophy than it wouldn't matter. That is all my point was, nothing meant in a mean or disrespectful way and definitely nothing to do with definition of trophy hunting. Blessings brother, and good luck with whatever you decide either let him grow and mature or take em out!

That is a young deer. He might have just broken it off. Pass.. Here is one that Woodmaster killed down in KY a few years back. His right "antler" was just about 4 points coming right straight off his pedicule. Still a mature buck.. That looks similar to one I shot 4 or 5 years ago, although Woodmaster's may be a bit bigger.

I'm culling him! When you go traditional you have to be not so picky (at least for me and some other traditional shooters I know).

I do talk bad about my little ugly bucks, and I have a few of them this year, but like others have said, they could grow up to be unique. I do like unique and funny looking racks. Actually, I tend to like the funny looking; you should see my wife.

it depends. have you seen the buck over a couple years with the same rack defects? i had a similar situation with what would have been an eight point but had a small tine on the other side. i let him pass for the next year. its tough to determine if its genetics unless youre seeing it year after year. first time seeing the buck, let it pass.
