Put out a few from seed and thought they all died this spring. Was happy when the property owner found this:

I strung a line in the garden and planted about 50 Chestnut seeds just to see if they will come up on their own next spring.

If you are looking for hybrid chestnut and persimmon visit treepro.com. There are varieties that drop over three months. They come with a 60" tree protector and stake. An Indiana company.

I put out my 12 Dustan chestnuts trees that I started from seeds. I still need to buy fencing 5 x 100 ft x 2. Hope to plant the next few days. That will make 17 total on 3 acres. Should work good with the twelve persimmon trees that I planted 7 yrs ago.

Good job Waynes. I had 19 of the 20 grow. They are all about 10 inches tall now.

Mine are 4-6 inches tall. Great for both of us. 19 of 20 is very good success. Good luck planting and protecting the investment.

Waynes, I have a few that have some brown spots on the leaves. What would that be? They are still inside.

Waynes, I have a few that have some brown spots on the leaves. What would that be? They are still inside. Sounds like a fungus, but being inside I wonder how. It might be to much light, but that creates a light bleach color spot on the leaves. I have some of that on mine. I have them outside to harden up before planting.

I am moving them outside today. That's what I felt it might be but growing inside I thought they would be safe.

You need a tree watering bag. Makes things much easier.

You need a tree watering bag. Makes things much easier. I live on the property - I use my 3 point sprayer as a water wagon! Trees get 5 to 10 gallon of water every couple of days unless we get rain. Sometimes I wait a little too long, but they tend to pull thru. I have also used old 5 gallon buckets with a small hole in the bottom.....where there is a will there is a way!
