Persimons that produce alot are in the full sun. Mine are along edges and they are limited production.

Seems like persimmons always do best on south facing edges. I doubt being on an edge has any benefit, but they like full sun. I never did see any deals on the chestnuts locally. I may have to pony up and pay full price next year. For what it is worth we had great luck buying about 12 of them through Stark Bro's nursery. Planted this spring and none died so far. Fenced each off but one (test).

I bought 2 American persimmon trees from Gurney's mail order 18 years ago they haven't produced any fruit. I started trees from seeds I picked up from a friends tree 15 years ago one tree has had fruit the last 2 years.

Is this a Chestnut leaf? Looks like a chinqapin oak. Very common tree and leaf is very easily confused. But I have been wrong before.

My 2 seedless in my back yard don't get any full sun and I get over 400 bags a year of pulp off of them. I planted along the edges since I have hay cut and fields farmed.
Stark Bros is hard to beat. They have a 3 pack of Chestnut trees I am going to buy a couple of them for next spring to plant.

I did have a bumper crop of Pecan's this year. I picked up 10, 5 gallon buckets. I let some people come out and pick up rest.

I ordered along with the chestnuts 2 pears and I believe it was 6 or 7 apples...EVERY tree came in great health and all but that one chestnut received fencing but I will be honest I never went and watered them once except day of planting a touch just to moist roots and assist dirt settling. The apples and pears even got mulch around them...so far 100% survival but Stark has that awesome 1 year warranty. They have made me willing to spend some more cash this next year with them...this time I want to grab a couple of their persimmon and perhaps a paw paw or two....as well as a few more apples.

Paw paw has a bonus in the summer time. Zebra swallowtail for their egg laying. Big green caterpillars.

Stark is a prime example of you get what you pay for. I had an apple tree die within the 1 year several years ago I called and told them they shipped me a new one no questions asked.
I have their apple packs. Several trees in the pack that start getting ripe in Sept with last one getting ripe in Oct.

7 of my chestnuts from seed made it this year. One a mole tunneled under it and popped out the ground. I found it two days later to water all dried up. Two just died. I have 15 more Dunstan Chestnuts seeds that I going to start 1st of February. It' been in my kegorator since early October. That should give me over 4 months of stratification. That's it for trees. I'm running out of room on the three acres. I guess I need to buy a farm in Ohio or Switzerland county.

I need to re read your post on how to grow them from seeds from last year Waynes. My largest one is 16" tall with two branches already. Can't wait until next spring to see how tall they get. I know they grow fast. Hopefully, winter is easy on the new trees.

I got pecan trees from starks last year. They are doing well I've always worried about their cold hardiness, Duff where you at in the state? Have had some friends have bad results up here near Michigan with them...however most started tiny seedlings...I have wondered if I ordered a solid one or two from Starks and got it established great would thrive...

I'd call them and see if they can give advice based on your location.
