This was a 3 day trip to west Tennessee on Land Between the Lakes and a small 5 acre private adjoining piece.The 1st buck was taken the evening of the first day on L.B.L.. The weather was warm with winds out of the ESE so we decided to hunt a funnel that ran north and south connecting two blocks of timber. To the east was a large c.r.p. field and a large winter wheat patch was to the west. We were hoping a buck would be quartering to the easterly wind moving north to south. Well one did and he took a Carbon Express Maxima Hunter/Wasp Sharp Shooter combo thru both lungs at 5 yards,I coulda rode that joker! Nice 4x4 for the area and we had a nasty weather change on the way with cooler temps and WNW winds. This would put us in a setup that was chosen the year before on a late winter scouting trip. This set made the hair stand up on my neck...a small cedar thicket with tons of rubs/scrapes/beds/droppings...this was the spot! We thought when the wind shifted around daylight we'd be in'em and man we were! Awesome hunt that ended around 9 a.m. when the nice 4x4 in the 2nd pic gave me a 15 yard shot.This hunt happened on a small 5 acre tract and is testament that you do not need a huge piece of property to be successful in taking nice bucks.I am looking forward to climbing back in that tree in 2008 and hope ya'll enjoy the pics.
