WHILE I WAS SERVING AS A FIELD GOVERNOR FOR THE ARKANSAS BOWHUNTERS ASSOCIATION,MY NAME WAS DRAWN FOR A COVETED PERMIT TO HUNT ON THE GRANDVIEW PRARIE W.M.A. IN S.W. ARKANSAS. LOCATED JUST NORTH OF HOPE,ARKANSAS THIS REFUGE WAS PURCHASED BY THE STATE FOR BOWHUNTERS AND IT WAS A DREAM TO HUNT.AFTER ARRIVING FOR MY FIRST DAY THE GAME AND FISH OFFICERS GAVE ME A TOUR AND MAN WHAT A PLACE.WE SAW SOME VERY NICE DEER AND THE SCENERY WAS TOP NOTCH TOO.HOWEVER MY STAY WAS GETTING CUT SHORT LEAVING ONLY A HALF DAY TO HUNT.THE DOE NUMBERS WERE EXTREMELY HIGH BUT NONE OF THE OTHER HUNTERS WOULD TAKE A DOE FOR FEAR OF RUINING A SHOT AT ONE OF THE MONSTERS ON THE REFUGE.IN SPEAKING WITH THE REFUGE STAFF I HAD TOLD THEM OF ANOTHER REFUGE IN KANSAS THAT HAD IMPLEMENTED AN "EARN A BUCK" PROGRAM,WHERE YOU FILL A DOE PERMIT BEFORE YOU CAN FILL THE BUCK PERMIT.THEY LIKED THE IDEA SO MUCH THAT IT WAS IN PLACE THE NEXT FALL.AS YOU CAN SEE I TRIED TO DO PART BEFORE LEAVING THE REFUGE.
