I was working in 2014, and had a very short deer season. I just couldn't hunt anymore. I had passed on other bucks much nicer than this little fella, but when I saw him opening morning of firearm season, I knew I was done. The day I shot him was the third time I'd seen him. He is special to me, as I my physical limit had been reached when he showed up chasing a doe. He was my first with a firearm, and my first attempt at a European mount. My computer was broken then and never uploaded any photo of him. I still have one smaller head planted in my backyard. At least he was smaller when I planted him.

Nothing wrong with that deer. Great memories, great eats, and a number of firsts. Turned out nice. Congrats!

He was only a nice deer to me. The one I shot at Crane last year was little like him too, but just as fun! I liked him, because he was a little wider, and my helper grunted him in for me. That was cool.
They all come with a story, don't they? This is the part I love about hunting, and we never forget. I think the stories get bigger like fish to a fisherman ...at least I like to see them grow a bit. LOL
This year, I am going for bigger or bust. Oh, it doesn't have to bigger than my first one, just big enough to make me smile. I'm seeing at least 5 now that will lock my jaws in that position for a while.
You know, there's something about seeing someone get their first deer that just tops about any deer we could harvest for ourselves. I'm hoping the grandson gets one of my big boys. This would make my year.
