 This was not your usual deer hunt.We were hunting a overgrown thicket one Nov. morning.Dad was freezing his back side off and decided it was time to go.I call my son on his cell,but get no answer.Now why is he not answering his phone?I try again and it rang and rang and rang and finally a verily audible voice answers,"Dad there is a deer right in front me and I cant shoot it with you calling all the time! ;DI about fell out of my tree when I heard that!He told me later that everytime that one rang that deer would zero in on him and was starting to get real nervous!He has since tried to ban me from using the cell! ;D |

That's why I always have the cell on Vib, and I use text messages instead of phone calls. You'd have never heard the end of it had you spooked off a booner!

I do silent and text only. Just look at phone from time to time, so to speak!

Last year my brother and i were hunting about 400yds apart right at first light i could see two deer right by his stand one was a nice sized buck. I just kept waiting for him to shoot. I was vervous myself because i knew he was going to drop one of them. Next thing i see is the deer run off south of us, i immediately called him all excited that he had shot one of them. Turns out as he was getting ready to draw his phone was in the pocket on the front of his bibs and someone called him and it vibrated so loud that it caught the deers attention and they ran off. Needless to say i laughed my a s s off.

What did you guys do before cell phones?  I have one but never and I mean never have it on while in the woods,if I need to call someone or they need to get ahold of me and I mean they NEED to get ahold of me thay can call and I'll call them back when ever I get a chance to look at it.I know that everyones going to say oh it's a safety thing..but damn leave them turned off or leave them in the truck!!!!!! |

Its not about extra yak time or a booner.I could care less about that.We are meat hunters first and foremost.He will have time to grow into a serious deer hunting machine.Now he is learning the ropes, so to speak.My time with my boy is all that matters.If someone was to fall and get hurt or shot,who wants to fumble around with the phone?I will take a spooked deer any day over the few precious seconds to save someones life.In this particular instance, it was time to leave the woods.This story was told to just relate the lighter side of hunting. ;D
