Sugar beets went in today, and worked the rest of the ground again. I did see some little sprouts for the clover and Whitetail Edge.
I'm guessing that I'll plant the chufa, sunflowers and Power Plant after turkey season, or when I get back from the Veteran turkey hunt.

Jon, what will you be using to plant the chuffa and sunflowers? Don't they have to be deeper in the soil?

Jon, what will you be using to plant the chuffa and sunflowers? Don't they have to be deeper in the soil? That's a great question. I think the chufa is too big to spread with my spreader, and the sunflowers need to be further apart than I'll be able to get with my spreader, so I will spread them all by hand. To get them at the correct depth, won't be too difficult. I just planted sugar beets before the rains, and it suggested 1-1/2" depth. I think this will work for both the chufa and the sunflowers. I set my disk at this depth and then used the harrow to cover them up. This is my plan for the others. However, I have used my harrow several times to help break up clumps with the tines facing down. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this would put them where they need to be, and level the ground. Yes, the Whitetail edge and clover was easy as it suggested a firm soil base and no more than 1/4" depth. I did disk it all ~5" deep then leveled it. Used my spreader to cover and then rolled it in. This was easy, and they are coming up nicely after one week. By the time I plant the chufa and sunflowers, the sugar beets should be coming up. If they do, I'll plant the rest in the same manner. If not, I'll try something different. You are more than welcome to use anything I have.

That thing looks nice for planting rows. There's just no way that I could walk that far to do 4ac. Well, I only have a couple acres left to plant now. I'm thinking one week at minimum or maybe two. I'm a bit afraid to plant it too early. The bag says no less than 65 degree ground temp.

We are still cool up here, yesterday temps never reached 50, and all this week night time temps are supposed to be in the 40's.

I remember seeing that it wasn't recommended in some parts of the country, but was thinking that where corn could grow, so could the Power Plant. We already have corn fields sprouting all over the place. I was surprised that they could get it in with all the rain that we've had. I did disk as deeply as I could, so turning that ground over must help to warm it up. I'm torn as I don't want to miss the rains, but don't want to plant too cool. Hey, I've driven a long way to help people, and will come help you if you need it. Or, I can meet you half way and you can just take my trailer with disk and ATV. How big is your food plot? I did drive 2 hours just to do a guys garden that was 10'x50'. It was help him or he was going to have to use a shovel.

Thanks. I have a couple of plots from 1/4 to about 1 ac. I have a 42" rototiller for the JD325, a drag, roller, JD325 garden tractor, Kubota B7500 tractor, 500 CC 4wd ATV (shaft drive) and a JD 4720 2/4wd tractor all available to use. 275# capacity broadcast pull behind spreader, & a 6' wide brush hog.
I gotta get a 2-3 row planter. Maybe this winters project to refurb one?

I need to get a good drag instead of using a piece of chain link fence, and I need to get the planter. Having a 5' disc would be nice.........

Get an 8' harrow. Man they are nice. Rural King sells them on line, but they do not offer free shipping to store like Tractor Supply does.
My disk is only 48", but covers the ATV tracks. I think a UTV would be wider though.

UTV's ARE wider. I'd like to find a 6' harrow, but it doesn't seem that they are available. The 8' one at Rural King seems to be two 4' sections connected together.

I have a 5 ft. drag harrow and a double drag harrow to pull behind wheel disk. There are plenty of them out there. I got both at farm auctions. Gave $25 for the single and $70 for the double. All fields are up just need some sunny dry weather. Over these cool rainy days.

Standing water all over the place this a.m.

Actually I measured the drag harrow I pull behind my ATV and it is 6 ft. Not sure where you are from but I have a used equipment guy I buy from on occasion and I know he has 3 or 4 sections at his place now. Not sure the pricing but normally are pretty inexpensive and are heavy duty. I am in Southeastern Indiana and the dealer is just outside Versailles, IN. Has all kinds of older used equipment.

I'm up in North Central Indiana, about 30 miles S/SW of South Bend. I will be down in Jasonville on Wed, but that's the opposite side of the state.

If its the guy I am thinking of he is right on RT 50. He has lots of great stuff. Last couple times I have gone by his place on the way down to our property he had a cultipacker sitting outside and a few other things I wouldn't mind adding to my food plot arsenal
