This will be hashed out in conference committee. Far from over. The use on state property only will come out or bill will die.

So if I understand it they are wanting to make this an experiment on state ground?

I'd say that the author of the amendment simply wrote it wrong and meant to ADD state ground to private ground.

So, any idea how the amended bill reads now?

I'd say that the author of the amendment simply wrote it wrong and meant to ADD state ground to private ground. Not a lo0t of thought put into this by our politicians is there? They got it n such a mess now the best thing to do is thumb it down. Of course I'm one that believes it shouldn't have been a bill to begin with...

I think ultimately the ammendment of state ground only was intended to be used to kill the bill. Jack, didn't messmer amendment eliminating the 10 ft rule pass.

Messmer amendement: iga.in.gov/legislative/2016/bills/house/1231#document-e3a7c20dIt does not appear to remove anything from the existing bill so the elevated stand and north/south rule stays. WAIT!!! It does remove lines 6-7 which is the 10' elevated stand requirement. North-south line stays.

What is with the 10mm handgun being brought into
this? Is that just for the south again...

What is with the 10mm handgun being brought into this? A certain segment has been pushing for that for years. The 10mm case is too short for the current 1.16" minimum.

iga.in.gov/legislative/2016/bills/house/1231#document-ec736648DIGEST "Hunting and property management. Requires the director of the department of natural resources to establish by rule a deer hunting season in which certain rifles may be used on state owned hunting areas in the southern half of Indiana. Provides that the rule may not authorize more than four annual seasons. Requires the department of natural resources to report on the impact of the hunting seasons. Authorizes the use of a handgun that fires a commercially available bullet of 10 millimeters in diameter to hunt deer." What a joke this has turned into....

So if I understand it they are wanting to make this an experiment on state ground? That's the way I read it. Same old "s!#t". It has become a "CMA" piece of legislature trying to address the same concerns that kept the proposal from passing the NRC hearings last year. The biggest pushback against that proposal came from northern Indiana and the DNR didn't have the spine to push it through. I still hope it passes so all the naysayers, including the attorneys advising the DNR, about safety, liability, will wipe out the deer herd etc, will finally be proven wrong. It also puts the responsibilty back on the DNR, where it belongs. I will just have to wait till 2020 to hunt with a standard caliber deer rifle in Tippecanoe County; still have my 358wssm and smokeless muzzleloader and I won't have to climb a tree Steve

Any thing regarding the I.D.N.R.'s actions and rulings are a JOKE!! Sounds like instead of approving the use of H.P.R.; sounds more like they are discouraging their use, by saying where they can & cannot be used. There are too many anti-gun officials & citizens in Indiana, to allow the "general" use of H.P.R. for hunting Deer in Indiana.
