Perhaps this has been covered and I'm just not seeing it but- if the current considerations become law, will that restrict the use of rifles that are now legal statewide, such as .358 Hoosier, .35 Rem 1.8", etc, to southern Indiana private ground only?

Actually, since the current legislation doesn't specify a difference between current legal rifles and proposed rifles, and it says no other restrictions on ammunition beyond full metal jacket, then it very well may be read (interpreted) as all rifles with a 16 inch barrel and .243 and larger are restricted to use in the southern half of the state and from 10' above the ground.

Now wouldn't that be something?? Talk about unintended consequences!! Good question!!!!

That is a very good question and one that should be posed to the "powers that be" for clarification before this stupid bill becomes a law....
What a mess....

What about the current rifles in the southern portion of the state? Will any of the new regs effect those?

Thanks, Woody. This issue has turned into something that only a group of politicians could create! What did Ronald Reagan say were the 9 scariest words in the English language?- "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help."

I'm concerned about this as well. I think it will all come down to the specific wording of the final version.

I think the things in the bill are the minimum that the DNR must do. I think they could allow the whole state if they want and they could also not make the off the ground portion part of the new season.

I think they could allow the whole state if they want and they could also not make the off the ground portion part of the new season. I'm sure Jack can answer better than I can but unless the DNR does an emergency order by the director any more changes has to go through the Administrative Rules Pricess and that is time consuming..

With the way IC codes are written, I wouldn't count on it unless it is specifically written into it.
