Thanx Woody. She is a danger to the deer. You should see what she can do to steel targets at 200 yards with her 44mag Colt Anaconda.
This year I got her a new stainless Contender in 7-30 Waters for her to try her hand at hunting deer with a handgun.

Not a chance of that - I practice more. As you can see from my post of my squirrel kills.
She sure can kill em pretty good, but I am the accuracy nut in this house. Got tired of searching for deer during archery season so for the past 4 years all my shots have been throat, spine and head shots.
As for firearm season, I have yet to have a deer move (except for dropping) after being hit with a .243, .308 or 30-06 round from my pistol. The 44 mags work prety well also. Can't wait to see what the 7-30 Waters does on the deer. Kicks a little less than her 44 mag, but is sposed to be accurate out to 300 yards. She is doing very well hitting a 4" target at 50 and 100 yards with it.

Semi - I bought the wife a Colt Anaconda for her birthday a few years ago. She had a Kimber 1911 45 auto she loved but had surgery on her right arm and couldn't take the recoil any more. So, for Christmas, I bought her a 1911 Springfield and had it rechambered to 9mm, so now it is a stainless/alloy with everything custom except for the frame and slide. If it could be titanium, it is. She loves to shoot and I love to have her with me.
The guys at work tell me I am crazy to buy my wife guns for any reason. I just tell em I married my best buddy and that we did everything together. Plus, I can cuddle up on the camper with my hunting buddy in deer camp to keep warm and NOT get funny looks from the other hunters in the morning.
Plus, I try not to give her reason to be angry at me.

I haven't had any personal experience with the 7-30, but a buddy of mine had/has one on his Contender. He used it one year, shot a nice buck with it. Didn't find the buck until the next spring. Had good shot placement, but just didn't find the deer. He hasn't used it for deer since. A buddy of his dad's used to use a 7-30 and started having problems finding the deer, IIRC. He no longer hunts due to CWD fears. This guy would carry two Contenders with him; the 7-30 for longer shots, and a .357 MAX for the closer shots.
BTW, I shot one deer with my .357 MAX. Only deer I've had to shoot twice. Didn't use hollow points with the first round. If I ever start carrying the Contender again, I won't make that mistake!

The smallest caliber I have used is the .243 (6mm) and it has performed very well.
The last 2 I got were shot in the head, so I must say that the drop like they were hit like a hammer would apply.
The two I shot in the boiler room both dropped also. I htink that the reloads I use have more velocity than the factory offerings and should do quite well on deer with a good frangible bullet like the Barnes polymer-tipped rounds I like so well.

Congrats to your wife. I need to get mine out shooting more so she can make those shots. She had a nice buck at 180 yards last year and did not take the shot. I commend her on that. She just doesn't have the experience with guns yet but it will come with time. One day she will probably out shoot me! It is a great experience hunting with your wife especially when you don't see each other much due to work schedule conflicts. Let me re phrase that last sentence.., your own wife.

Just curious .... are you saying you shoot deer in the throat, spine and head with a bow?
