I was in the bob in 1985 for an elk hunt. Did no good on elk but was a great time. Went in 22 mi on horse back and stayed in wall tents. Looks like a great time you all had. Thanks for posting and bringing up some good OLD memories for me.

Thanks for sharing I worked out west on cell phone towers for a summer, you wanna talk about some views! If you haven't been out west talk your wife out of Hawaii or Florida and hit up Montana or Idaho or northern Nevada or ... Well you get the idea I agree with Woody!

If you like that...now go to the Mogollon Rim in Arizona. Pretty much the same thing...high wall you can sit atop and view the world. There's a 63 mile single dirt track road that goes from one end to the other. (Rim Road) I used to live out there and it was my favorite place to hike on weekends.

Wow! I have been right there! Hiked the Bob a couple of times in the 80's when I was able. One trip we parked at the Gibson Reservoir, then along the lake and all the way to the Wall. Another time we came in from the north on Silvertip Creek I believe. You are a lucky dude!
Featherduster is right, do it while you are able.
Also, talk to experienced wilderness hikers, and prepare!
It is an awesome experience but an easy place to get in trouble if you are not prepared.
Fantastic pictures you got there! What was your route?
First trip there?
Seeing those pics makes me feel young again!

We parked at Benchmark and hiked in from the south, along the Sun River; I don't remember the trail numbers. Ours was the shortest way in to the wall.
Pretty neat that the only way to see it is either by air or 40 miles roundtrip by foot.
I've hunted along the edge of the Bob a couple times before, but this was my first trip inside the boundary.

Great pictures.
I was in Colorado and Utah recently those are beautiful states as well. The western states are wonderful places to travel to that's for sure. Statistically speaking most western states each have over 10 million acres of public land. And even though its public land, much of it is very clean and pristine.

I've spent a good deal of time out west before. I've talked to staff in some of the National Forest and National Parks and they can tell you that some of the Mule Deer, Bear, Bobcats, Elk and other wildlife has probably never seen a human before in certain remote parts of the western United States. I spoke with a member of the forest service in southern Colorado once who said there are Mule Deer and other wildlife that can live there entire life in parts of the west and never see a human. It's pretty fascinating to know there are still places that remote here in America.

What an awesome place to visit. I surely need to talk my wife into a family trip to a place like that. I would also love to be able to hunt somewhere like that at least once in my lifetime.
