But came across this on craigslist....has adjustable cultivators in front of the packer wheels. 10' wide..... I really, really needed one of these. Its amazing how much seed (and money) you waste when you just broadcast it on top of the soil.

I hear ys. Good score!
If I can swing it, my winter project will be buying and refurbishing a 2-3 row planter for the 3-point.

U can rent a drill for 10 to 15 per acre at your local USDA in most counties.

U can rent a drill for 10 to 15 per acre at your local USDA in most counties. The NRCS/USDA in Starke County (their office is in Knox) doesn't have one (that I know of). Marshall/St Joe County (they share an office) has 2 sitting by the office on Rt. 30 just to the West of Pioneer Seed.

Don't know about other counties but here in Tippecanoe county when I put in my habitat planting last year there was a waiting list to rent the drill(s)...

Nice tool. You'll get good use out of it. A cultipacker is great for assuring good soil / seed contact with stuff like brassicas, clover, etc. I think the little ridges / furrows created help hold some moisture too.

I figure with the adjustable depth cultivators on it I will have some flexibility with larger seed as well....seed that wants to be under the soil and not simply packed for contact. I can disc the soil....broadcast the larger seed....use the cultimuncher to actually bury the seed a bit and then pack in a single pass.
I will try that experiment this summer....knowing my soil office has a drill I can use is great but if I can get a good stand of beans without having to reserve and transport that drill even better.
Plus I like experimenting....
