When I got home from work I found that my magic roadside box held a special treat for me today.
I went with the QAD Exodus full blade. I kinda forgot how wicked these things actually are. Very short beyond the arrow shaft since half of the length of blades is around the arrow. I'm thinking I'm really glad we left an extra half an inch on my arrows when they were made.
Is it possible that a deer gives me the chance to "field test" my new setup during some of my limited stand time this year? :-)

I've shot rage, muzzy, and Walmart brand. Killed deer with each, actually. I'll say what I like about the rage blood runners I used was the hole was HUGE. However, my last two deer have been pre cut carbon Walmart arrows and $8 for 3 Walmart fixed blade broad heads. every deer I've shot has dropped within sight. That being said, I practice a lot before I hit the woods. First with practice points, then fine tune with broad heads. No matter what practice tips/broad heads I'm using I find they just fly different, even if it's just a little bit. Find what you feel comfortable shooting and fling some arrows. Confidence is key in this game

I've personally killed many deer with a Muzzy MX-3 or MX-4 broadhead. I feel that the bigger the blade/cut the more drag it has going in. Meaning it's covering more area yes, but it also has more to cut through slowing it down. I'm not a big fan of mechanical broadheads but that's just me. I love my fixed blade Muzzy's and plan to stick with them! They fly just like my field points leaving little to no adjustments to be made.
Everyone has their own opinion on them between fixed and mechanical, and it seems that everyone has a kill story for all of them. So personally, I think if its sharp and placed right, it's gunna kill it. So whatever blade you feel fits your style best is the one to go with! Like swilk said Ford vs. Chevy

Like swilk said Ford vs. Chevy I completely agree with this post, I shoot mx-3 125 grains and get great penetration even when hitting bone. The qad exxodus is a similar broadhead and should suit you well. I shoot a similar poundage and speed as the stated in the original post and I won't even consider a expandable unless it has a short cutting diameter like the rage k.e.. More blades and wider cutting diameter result in greater resistance which results in lower penetration and a lower likelihood of an exit wound and lower chances of recovering a deer. A well hit deer is a dead deer no matter what broadhead you're using. I just like the mx-3 because they are low maintenance and relatively inexpensive.

I tend to buy BPS or Cabela's brand fixed blade. I have shot numerous deer with both compound and crossbow. I have never had to trail a well-hit deer because they have all died within sight. The only deer I have ever lost was a complete miss to the shoulder blade. Coincidentally, it was the largest buck that I have seen in the woods and that was 19 years ago. I still think about that hunt every time I get in a stand.
