I am new to the forum, and new to squirrel hunting. I have been browsing and learned a lot from this forum! Today I went out hunting and got my third squirrel of the season! But when I started working on skinning and cleaning it I realized it has reddish spots all over its underside. The spots were on the belly, but also underneath the arms (in the "armpits") and really all over the underside of the squirrel. I have searched the Internet and have not been able to find what this is. I am mainly concerned about the safety of the meat. Have any of you seen this before? If so do you know what the cause is? click image uploadhow to do a screen shot

My friend told me that he wanted a couple squirrels if they weren't worbelled( ) up. I didn't know what that was. He says they are like boils on the skin. He thought it was from fly larvae, but not sure. He'd heard they are okay to eat, but he didn't want to. I don't know, but this is what I've heard.

If it had warbles (botfly larvae) its big bumps just look it up not appetizing to say the least

So it's warbles? I've never seen them before, he just said he didn't want one like this. Maybe these are premature warbles? LOL

The warble would more than likely still be in it they look like boils that have busted open

Thank you all for the responses! Seems like it isn't warbles but possibly flea / tick bites. I ended up not saving the meat, I absolutely hate to waste anything but I did not want to risk eating it. Hopefully I won't get any more squirrels with these marks or bites all over them.

I've been seeing HUGE bees in my front yard burrowing in the ground. These things look like a yellow jacket, but 2" long. This is the first year that I've seen them. I burned them out.

Fetherduster - I definitely plan on sticking around, and hopefully joining in on some conversations. I am very new to hunting but have really enjoyed it thus far. Will be a very long time until I can provide EXPERT advise haha Jon Snow - I hope you figure out what those crazy bees digging in your yard are. A few days ago I spotted a hive of bees in my yard, two days later I went back out and the entire hive was gone. Not sure what happened..... But glad its not there anymore.
