Wife and girls went to visit her sister in Bloomington Friday night, so I piled my stuff together at the last minute and made the 20 minute drive up to the Deam Wilderness. Reminds me how lucky I am to have a resource like this so close to home.
Takes a bit of bushwacking to get to this particular spot. A storm had just passed through, and the turtles were out in full force.. I saw 5 or 6 on the 4 mile hike in.
Pretty hot.. We were both happy to get to the lake.
Took a few minutes to set up our sleeping area.
Fished for a few minutes before another storm rolled through.
The dog didn't care much for the thunder, but our shelter kept us nice and dry.
After the rain stopped, I got us a fire going in hopes of cooking up a fish for supper.
Finally, got one that was eating size.
Fried catfish, biscuits, and taters..
Got back out before it got hot the next morning. Good times!

BTW, how were the skeeters? They weren't bad at all.. I could hear them buzzing, but the smoke from my fire kept them at bay.

That's a nice area. For Indiana it's a fairly remote place that can offer a wilderness experience. There are some really good views of Lake Monroe in the wilderness area also.

And they claim the common box turtle is an endangered critter. They are everywhere in my neck of the woods also.
