I have one just like it with a stock, and can't hunt with it because of the stock ...go figure. That's why the deer hunting regs are so stupid. You can hunt deer with a high-powered pistol, but add a stock and it suddenly becomes illegal. Same gun. My advice to anyone who supported this failed HPR attempt is to buy a high-powered pistol (AR, Encore, Contender, etc.) and hunt with it. Get huge numbers of pistols out there to the point that the woods are saturated with them.

Is that basically an AR15 rifle with no stock? Yep. Indiana considers a pistol to be a barrel less than 16", so you'd be good to go with even a common 14.5" AR-15 barrel. This particular barrel is 8". Here's the scoop on AR-15 pistols: You can buy them already built or assemble your own. Here's where it gets tricky. If it started life as a rifle, it can NEVER be a pistol. If it started life as a pistol, it can be switched between rifle and pistol configurations at will. So, you cannot simply remove the buttstock from an AR-15, install a short upper, and call it a pistol. Start with a stripped lower and build it as a pistol first. Then you can use it in pistol form for the 2-week firearms season, then put it into rifle configuration the other 50 weeks of the year, I disagree with this statment. I had a conversation with a gun dealer and he stated that atf states that if it starts as a rifle it can be converted to a pistol but it can NEVER be converted back to a rifle and if it starts as a pistol it can Never be converted to a rifle. That is why if u buy a contender/encore rifle used u need to make sure it was or did not start as a pistol because if the serial no are ever ran u could be in big trouble with the atf

I already have those nice Barnes rounds for my 300 blackout like you. They're just begging to be used for a good purpose. I haven't seen any zombies around here, so I might as well get a pistol to use them for deer.

I would like to see rifles leagle as my choice of what I take hunting would be increased and I am not comfortable shooting specialty pistols long distance (I have a 243 and a 35 rem) my choice for long range (2 to 4 hundred yds) is a smokeless muzzeloader. Check out dougs message board, there are custom 45 and 40 cal guns that are shooting 3000 fps and 5 in groups at 4 to 5 hundred yards. These type of guns are not the exception but the norm for the smokeless crowd. They are not much more expensive than a specialty pistol if u do not go hog wild with a lot of things u do not need. If you have a savage or remington 50 cal muzzeloader you already have the base for the rifle. Just get a custom barrel and have it installed and you are good to go.

M4,
Didn't the BTF do some flip flopping on this subject?

I'm not sure, but I do know that since the Thompson/Center lawsuit, the ATF has held the 2011-4 ruling as correct.
I do remember that back at least in the late 90's, if you wanted to use an Encore as a pistol, you had to either buy a pistol or a bare frame papered as a pistol on the Form 4473. You couldn't buy an Encore rifle or muzzleloader and convert it to a pistol.

I have both a ML-I in .50 and a ML-II (that RB modified) in .45. The .45 is my go to deer hunting weapon in Indiana. (Until I get a Specialty Pistol that is!)
