Nick:
Sometime this summer when work and weeekend 'honey-do' list get trimmed down some, I will give you a shout when I am coming up that way. I shoot clays at Terre Haute Sporting Clays on weekends. Maybe we can meet there and either shoot clays or the bull over coffee and talk a bit on getting you started and what your interested in. You may have answered the question already, if so, sorry for asking again: Do you have a firearm to hunt with? If not, I have a few I can bring up to Terre Haute you can try at their range when we meet to see how each behaves.
Everyone on here is pretty good about giving advice on both places to hunt and how to go about it. While I have a small group that usually hunts down this way in bow (they dabble opening weekend of the season) and opening weekend of gun season, am sure we can work you into the lineup then or on another weekend. Also, squirrel season is just around the corner and I have plenty of those to go around and a hunting camp to sleep over if you wish to make it a weekend.
Also: Have you taken a hunter safety course? If not, it is mandatory for hunting on my ground down here. May seem dd that I require it, but as a shooting instructor for youth, I have found it still is a pretty good training tool for all ages.
