There has been a lot of habitat loss especially in central and northern Indiana. A lot of woodlots, and places that used to provide Turkey habitat have now been developed. Also the coyote, fox, and bobcat population probably has a serious effect on the Turkey population. Also if nearly 60,000 people are turkey hunting in Indiana each Spring, that seems like too many Turkey hunters compared with the states Turkey population. I run 10 trail cameras year around on my property, and have done this for 20 plus years...never got a bobcat on a photo from trail cams...I do know a couple guys who have in Parke co..but I don't see it being an issue with low turkey production in our part of the State...I'll give you the Habitat loss....Greedy Farmers and clean farming practices has taken a lot of habitat here in Central Indiana...one more row of corn mentality has hurt us. If we have 110,000 birds, 18 % success rate on 60,000 hunters that's 10,800 birds killed , less than 10%...that's leaves 99,200 birds for the following year....it's more weather and brood production/hatches...we need some good hatches and production.
