For anyone that believes we are experiencing a loss of suitable deer habitat, you really need to get out more or at least take a Google Earth tour around the state. Just looking at Johnson County is proof in itself. Yep. Suitable quail habitat .... suitable rabbit habitat .... but not suitable deer habitat. If deer needed trees to survive there would be millions of deer in western states in a bunch of trouble. You forgot squirrel habitat. I very much agree with your tree statement. There's no comparison in the number of deer I see in the large tracts of timber than out in the reclaimed mine ground on our lease. Amazing what's out there if you just look with a good pair of binoculars on the reclaimed ground that the biggest tree is waist high. Other than my weapon , my binos are my most important hunting tool during firearms season. Seldom do I leave the ground during gun season
