Over 100 hours spent purched in a tree this year..... 10:00 this morning I'm standing in my stand reading my third "Jack Reacher" book of the year. Read a page then scan the woods. Read then scan. Read then HOLY CRAP THERES A BUCK!!! 30 yards away....wet from just crossing the river. Slip my book into my pack....buck starts to move. Reach up and slide the scope coat off my scope and he begins to trot....swinging in front of the stand and hidden behind the tree directly in front of my stand. Slide the gun to my shoulder.....both eyes open....swinging the gun to my left in front of him to the first opening. As soon as he enters the scope I gently swing with his movement and squeeze the trigger....knew he was hit but I sent a second shot into him faster than should be possible for a man to work a bolt gun. Second round jams before third round is chambered.....just as I clear the jam he goes down hard. Distance to first shot....about 25 yards. 9 pointer. 155". 200lbs on the nose. 25" left main beam. 13 7/8" right side G2. I'm guessing 5.5 years old....hopefully the taxi can tell me for sure. All that is great but the fact that today is my sons third birthday made it about as good as it gets.

His left hind leg had been broken at some point in the past....it was healed at the joint with a baseball sized knot that is hard as bone....and the leg healed with about a 20 degree twist to it.
One front hoof was crumbling away .....
Poor fella had to hurt to walk.

Great buck. And I agree with your sentiments about a bad season turning into a good one on a dime. I was just thinking tonight about how a good buck suddenly in front of me would change my season from good to great in an instant. Have you ever thought about the fact that you and a buck are on a collision course, and you are both working towards each other in time? Right now, there is a buck out there living his life as I sit here living mine, yet we are destined to be in the same spot at the same time one day. It may be tomorrow, or it may be next season, but we're working towards our meeting. Kind of "way out there" thinking. LOL!

I really, really need a new hat. The rural king special was bought in a pinch last year and never replaced.....

That's the kind of thinking that keeps us going though....the chance. Just the chance that today may be the day.

too bad he didn't have that G4 on the right side..he'd of really been a dandy...still a great buck! He has the beam length on that side....and a nub grew....but didn't grow the point for some reason. I doubt I'll ever get to the point where even considering passing up one just like him would be considered. I set a 150 goal for this year and was twice tempted this year with lesser bucks....a mid 130's with a bow in mid October and a high 130's this past Sunday evening with a gun in my hands. I had my favorite tag soup recipe ready to go though just in case.....

Oh my goodness that buck is amazing. Congrats man! Very true how everything can change in an instant. If it was nonstop action in the woods then it wouldn't be all that exciting to go out. It's the persistence that makes the game all that much better. Enjoy your harvest! He's a dandy for sure

Super deer! You put the time in, now enjoy the fruits (or venison) of your labor! Well done
