Lone Wolf for me. Years ago I had the same problem as you, stands being stolen. Or hunters would hunt out of my stands when I wasnt there. I finally bought an API Grand Slam climber. Had that for years but got tired of carrying 20+ pounds around. Thats when I bought a Lone Wolf sit & climb. Solid, very easy to install on a tree, lite weight, lays flat against your back when in transit, love it! Liked it so much that I bought another one, hand climber combo. Another feature I like is that once your at your desired height, the seat and the platform are tied together by two straps. Once the straps are tightened, it makes for a very solid tree stand! Yea I've tried the can thing before. Come to find out the ones doing it are kin to the local law so nothing been done so far.

The easy way to keep your ladder stand from being stolen is to put a heavy chain & lock at the top, then when you climb down pull out the support brace. That will make the stand very wobbly & dangerous to climb or hunt from. It isn't impossible to steal but if you make it hard enough they will go to the next guy's stand. The brace is a small thing to carry into the woods to give you confidence that your stand will be there when you get there.
I used to just put a tree stand cable lock at the top but the thieves just messed my lock up trying to steel my stand. That is how I found how flimsy those cable locke are, it took me about 3 min. to cut my lock off at seasons end to remove my stand. So it had to be someone with very little tool knowledge trying to get the lock off.

After a time or two of going straight to the state level there were no more issues.
