Never have had a shot opportunity more than 150 yards in 15 years of hunting. And 150 yards was maybe once or twice. Only shot that far once...missed. The vast majority of my gun hunt shots have been 50 yards and in. Longest harvest was 75 yards. That's not going to change unless I start hunting other properties than I do now. I've taken 70 deer as of last season, and only one was beyond 100 yards -- it was 142 yards with a slug gun at Crane. And being a one-day hunt was the only reason I even took that shot. Heck, most of my gun kills are under 50 yards. LOL!

The same Marlin .44 that I have today. You could legalize military spec. sniper rifles and that would not give one any advantage in the area that I hunt.

I'd use my 30-06 probably. Probably switch back and forth with it and 1 of my Contenders with either the 35 Rem. pistol barrel,44 mag rifle barrel or my 45 cal muzzle loading barrel like I've been doing for years now. I just take whichever I get in the mood for. I even switch during the season. Just 1 more option.

I own a 30/06, but it currently is not wearing a scope. I also own a Marlin 1895 in 45/70 which has a Williams peep sight. And then there's the 358 Hoosier with a 3x9 variable. I do want to hunt some with the Marlin, but the Hoosier gets the nod the first part of the gun season.

I will probably pickup a .243 or .257 caliber rifle! I love the small efficient rifle calibers and this would give me a reason to dust off the reloading equipment again.

My compound will still be sole weapon till buck tag is filled and probably even if 99% of the time. That said my 50cal ML will see some action and late season if I pull out a HPR it will be my .257R not gonna destroy that much meat like some of the larger HPR but will be something new to try. Might pick up a 30-30 lever too just for excuse to pick one up...but I rarely put down the bow all season so who knows.

For years I've wanted to take a deer with my CZ 550 in .243. I've taken lots of coyotes, a couple of crows and a friend took a hog in Texas with it. Although, my 358 BFG is a deerslayer.

I hunt from ground blinds on my own property which is primarily forest. For the blinds in the woods, I'll stick with the 77/44 since targets aren't visible beyond 75 yards. One blind overlooks fields where 100+ yard shots are the norm so those days I'll carry a Savage .308. Not sure what I will do with my three 12 ga. slug guns. They are useless to me now. :-(

I haven't had the slug barrel on the 870 since the rifles came in to play. I may this year though as there is one spot I want to use the climber at and I want it to go nowhere as there is a huge cliff like drop off if it goes very far at all; and getting to it if it goes down there isn't easy from any direction. Figure a big old slug ought to take care of a shoulder and what's behind it pretty well; likely be a 20-30yd shot too. You never know, you may hunt IL or some place like that; I'd hang on to one of them anyways.

This year... "Old Faithfull." My Ruger M77 chambered in .30-06. Consistent sub 1" groups with 150 gr Sierras. Once I get my Tikka Whitetail Hunter in 6.5 x 55 Swede back from my niece, I'll likely carry that. Just bought my late uncle's pre-64 Winchester (.270) which was rebarreled (Douglas Premium), new stock built by his brother (my eldest uncle) and reblued. Need to work up a load before I will carry it afield. Sure will be nice to pull some of these from my safe and carry them again!

I'm a little unclear. If this passes, what calibers would then be legal?
The reason I'm asking is because I thought it couldn't be bigger than .243, but I've seen a couple people say that they would be using their 30-06.
I apologize if this is a dumb question, I'm no expert.

Bought a 204'for yote hunting a couple years ago but will be wishing i went with a 243 if bill passes. As is i will just stick with my 20 ga sabot single shot. 60 yards probably longest shot ive ever taken on deer and dont feel the need to shoot any farther
