Tagged along on a hunt with quackingtim, bggoosekiller, Jake Huff and his dad (Gary???) today. I'd never been waterfowling, so it was all new to me. We hunted a field that borders the Wabash near Lafayette, and the river is OUT! The drainage we set up near probably rose close to a foot in the 4 hours I was there. The numbers of geese was *unbelievable*. Without exaggerating too much, I (as a noob) would guess we saw between 1000 and 1500 geese this morning, mostly between 8:30 and 10:30. Unfortunately, they wanted in the end of the field that we weren't in, in addition to a field across the road. Tim ended up walking down to the end of the field at one point to kick them up, and while he was gone we had 6 land in front of us. Those were the only ones we took shots at and ended up with 3. Tim, Jake and Adam are good callers, but it's hard to compete with so many of the real thing. I brought one of the 3 home, gonna see what goose jerky tastes like. ;D Thanks for having me along guys!!! Here's a pic of my goose:

Glad you had fun Dan. I bet it was only 100-150 birds though.

That picture needs a caption. How about:
"Will you get out from under there and help me unload these blocks?"

That picture needs a caption. How about: "Will you get out from under there and help me unload these blocks?" ;D LOL The blocks actually came out of the truck within an hour or so of that pic being taken. Needed room for Christmas gifts! Glad you had fun Dan. I bet it was only 100-150 birds though. ;D If you say so! Tim, if you are reading this, did you get any more to come in after I left?

I think we saw more like 10 to 15 birds. Those new guys get too excited.
We didn't shoot any more. There was just something they didn't like.

Was wondering (with what little I know, go figure... ) if the spread had been turned slightly so that it was more of a north-south orientation rather than the east-west that it was, would that have maybe helped....? Once they are on the ground, do the birds pay much attention to how/where the wind is blowing? 10-15 birds. Yeah, that's all we saw! ;D ;D ;D

danf, I hope you have a very understanding spouse. This way of life is so addicting that there is no in between. You either do it or you don't. Good luck with that. Nice bird. Kevin

I agree Tim; it was really no different than staging a deer drive... Choppy- check your PM's.

Don't worry about him Dan. It kinda seems like all he does is stir the pot.

Choppy, buddy, you really need to lighten up. In the future, think before you post, and if you consider it to not be of any beneficial purpose to the intent of the thread, just keep it to yourself!!! I really don't see how this post was anything beneficial to the forum!

If I were to try and drive the birds to the hunters that would be wrong. I got in between the hunters and the birds to get them out of the field so others would not land w/them. It's hard to compete w/the real thing.
