I sent an e-mail today to the Cicada guru, Professor of Biology at Mount St. Joseph Univ. in Cinn. Oh Dr. Gene Kritsky for his input on the lack of cicada's. He assured me that we would be hearing them within the next week or so. He also said that we would see a heavy amount of what he called the periodic cicada in 2017 and even a heavier influx in 2021.

My Brother said he heard a few "buzzing" yesterday morning. So maybe they are just late this year, but we'll all just have to wait and see. They're a bit on the "Lacking side" though for this time of the year.

I've been trying to prove a bit of wisdom I got from an old timer a few years ago. He says they start to buzz 6-8 weeks before a major cool down in weather. Seems to have held true around here as I mark my calendar each year.

Now yesterday, I heard a very few "buzzing", around noon; but most noticeable their noisy "buzzing" is lacking at night, when they are/should be most vocal.

I don't normally hear cicadas here until very late July or early August. Not surprised to have not heard any just yet. Ditto...I never hear them either until August. It's early here for cicadas to be buzzing.

Folks, I am now starting to hear them. Was out scouting out hickory & oak trees for Mast, and heard several "buzzing" about. Boy they are certainly late this Summer!! We're fairly dry down here in Central KY, and this might be the reason. Our last good rain was back around the last week of May or early June, were we received over 2". WE NEED RAIN NOW!!

Just wondering is any of you folks have yet to heard locusts "buzzing" in the trees?? I normally hear them start in late June but this year I haven't heard a single one. STRANGE! I hear them all the time, sort of. Darn tinnitus. We had Cicadas killer wasp move in and the amount of buzzing has dropped right off. My wife and daughter have heard them though.
