Just returned from our second trip of this spring and the fishing is getting ready to go full swing with the warmer water temps at (64 degrees). We fished out of Marblehead, Ohio but this time the weather was perfect with the air temps in the 60's, sunny with 1 foot or less waves.
We trolled Stinger spoons in the colors of purple and dark blue and could hardly keep up with the action. We caught and kept 25 Walleye that averaged 3.5 pounds lost probably another 10-12 also we caught but released at least 60-70 silver bass as well as about a dozen Sheephead and one nice catfish.
I had the pleasure of having my son and my stepson along on this trip and they had a blast. Once again we took about 6-7 pounds of fillets to a local restaurant and had them cook them up 4 different ways along with our potatoes salads and a few cocktails.
Everybody brought home about 3-4 pounds of fillets with my cousin being the winner of the coin toss for the cheeks and wings,one more trip to go next week.

I can easily say such a day on the water would be something I've never experienced even though I have had some fine days.
My brother and his four boys (maybe someone else, I forget) had the best day (previously) I had ever heard of (and seen).
26 wallege off Erie early one spring, as a package those 26 fish weighed just over 200 lbs. Largest of which was 14lbs ? oz and I was elected to drop it off at the local taxidermist for them.
WHAT A LOG!! (no I didn't get invited LOL)

When you fish lake Erie in early May it's all about timing and luck. The biggest Walleye are taken at that time and as the water warms the biggest ones begin heading east for deeper water. As the water warms the fishing improves but the size goes down,it's for this reason we do 3 trips during May, the first one for big fish the other 2 for filling the freezer. BTW Steve we just learned of a new part of the Walleye to eat it is referred to as wings which is the area around the 2 pectoral fins on the fishes bottom side just behind the gills. We have never tried these before so I will be frying some up tomorrow, I will let you know how they taste.

Dad has a charter out of Port Clinton in early June, I have tried to tell him to get up there earlier for the big walleye. But, they have limited out with 8 people both days the last few years. It has gotten a lot better in the last few years up there. Seems he always hit the mayfly hatch. Like carpet on the water.
