Because I got em all. They started showing up Saturday so the wife put out some orange halves and we now have so many I can't count them plus the added bonus we also have Grosbeaks, Finches, Red wings,Doves, one male Hummingbird and others.
I also have a robin nesting on all four of my downspouts.

Neat!!
We had an oriole ONCE... I went and bought an "oriole feeder" and he never visited it, just moved on I guess..
Can one just put out orange halves in hopes of attracting them?
Most of our birds are cardinals and gold finches. We've got two hummers hitting the feeder I put out two days ago

YES oranges halves and if you get some using it you can put jelly preserves in the orange when they use it up. They also use up about 2 hummingbird feeders a day, they rock the feeder to make it splash out.

Hmmm.. I don't think I want them messing with my hummer feeder.
I'll stick an orange out and see what happens....

If they find your oranges they will find your hummer feeders next so if you don't want to be filling feeders twice a day don't attract them.

They do love those hummie feeders. When we visit friends in rural Maryland, we like to watch them come to the feeders.
