This morning was picture perfect for waterfowling... It was in the low 30's, which was cold, but not C-O-L-D, the wind was solid, but not too much, there was a great fog that pushed the waterfowl down, and oh yes...... the birds were WORKING!
Myself, Kyle, Brent, John, Aaron, Rusty, and Michah (Kyle's Cousin on his first hunt of ANY kind) were along for the experience. The morning started slower than yesterday, but then before we knew it we were slammed with mallards. It was some incredible action.....with one time the sky was full of tornado'ing greenheads. We killed 22 mallards.... 4 or 5 were Suzy's, but the Suzy killers were Micah (who had an exemption since it was his first hunt) and Rusty (who doesn't fully subscribe to the CIC way). Kyle did kill one of the SuzyQ's, but it was unintentional as he dropped a greenhead with his mate all with one shot.
The geese weren't really hitting the field we were in this morning. We did have some good action though.....and we busted 5 honkers to add to the bag. We worked one group in to the point where you could see the black of their eyes as they honked "OH CRAP" as we popped up and let loose with the steel.
Thanks again Kyle for the hunt.....another awesome time. Myself..... I got my goose limits Friday, Saturday, and was 1 shy today, but I made up for it by getting my Mallard limit today. An AWESOME 3 days of hunting. My Benelli's barrel needs to cool down! It doesn't get much better than these past few days, I don't care where you are at!!!!!
Here's the video from the hunt. Let me say first...... the photography is CRAP in every aspect. I wanted to set the camera back and get a forward view of the hunters and birds, but my camera kicks off after 5 minutes of sitting, and my remote can't trigger it back on. SO, I had it next to my blind on a tripod. I couldn't see the screen, so things didn't get framed properly... and other than the single goose kill I never tried to move the camera while birds are working. SO..... with all that said, here's a rough video. It's certainly not NBC nor H.I.T. quality, but it gives a glimpse at some of the action. BTW.... this is the PERFECT song for a waterfowl video!!!
