Myself, Kyle, John, Aaron, Brent, and Tony hit one of Kyle's hot spots this morning and let me be the first to say....... It was INSANE!!!!!!! From legal shooting light, till the moment we left the field we never went more than 5 -10 minutes without several flocks working the area. I can't even begin to guess how many ducks and geese we had on us at one point. Brent was smart enough to put the gun down and capture the moment on video so people would believe it. A few thousand is a fair guess.... The action was one of those rare times where you sit there and say, "Is this REALLY happening HERE???" People pay several hundred dollars to get a hunt this good.....so watch Brents video and it will speak for itself. You will see there were several times we had small groups well within range and we didn't shoot....partially because we all were stunned, partially because we were waiting for that perfect group to come in so all of us could get the perfect shot.
Unfortunately we had a screwed up set up....the geese HATED our setups, despite changing things several times. In retrospect, I'm certain it was our lack of snow covers. We should have limited out on geese in 10 minutes.....instead it took till 1130 or so. We didn't bother setting out field dekes for ducks, so they didn't want to come in with their gear down.....but we still managed to knock out 4 greenheads.
John had to leave us early, so he took his 2 geese and left..... so all the photos will show 5 of us......with only 9 geese. "I thought you said you 6 guys got your limits," you might be saying. We did have a 10th goose down WAYYYYY up by the trucks, so we got it on the way out....so it was MIA from the photo op.
Absolutely incredible hunt Kyle. I speak for everyone when I say thank you for the invite to your field. Aside from the insane action I LOVED how we all talked out each group of possible shooter flocks of ducks.....noting which were greenheads, and where the Suzies were. If Suzy had gotten shot this morning, it would have been from overspray.....not intentionally. Funny how we can practice conservation and not even realize it till after the fact!
Enough blabber....... Brent has all the videos and pictures and will post them here in a bit.
