Hey y'all.
This summer my wife (a Kokomo native) and I will be moving from the deep south to Howard County. We currently live in the suburbs of Atlanta so I am looking forward to living in a smaller town. Assuming I can adjust to the winters up there, I plan on spending just as much if not more time in the woods.
I look forward to learning the land and seeing some wildlife!
Mitchell

Welcome.
You'll find the hills south of Indy. Unfortunately, for you, Howard County is in the flat part of the state.

You'll probably be able to spot me when we finally move by the red clay on my boots and truck. I actually had some Fresh Air last month. We were rolling through town headed down to South Georgia. Good stuff!
I hope you all are staying warm. Looks like a bunch of snow is coming down right now!

Welcome! I live in flat as a pancake Indy, but I own a piece of ground in Dearborn County (Southeastern Indiana) that has a 300 foot elevation gain from lowest to highest point. We don't have any mountains but we have some hills that will wear you out!

Welcome Mitchell!
Did you bring any bullfrogs with you. I once ordered 4 big frogs from Georgia; they get a little bigger there.
Embrace the winters here; it's great being in the woods when you can see the breath coming out of that big buck's mouth.
Post often.

Haha, I'm sorry I will not be bringing any bull frogs with me. Just Bull Dawgs (my wife graduates from UGA in May). Thanks for all the kind welcomes. I'm looking forward to the new experience.
Funny story. When I first met my wife's parents they could not get over my constant "Yes 'mam" and "No sirs". They had never heard someone talk to them like that. I grew up being corrected every time I spoke if I didn't answer an elder like that. They still give me a hard time about my "Y'alls", however.

Welcome aboard! You'll drive through the hills on your way ...but you will be out of them long before you get to Kokomo! Up there you will have the occasional "hill" (notice it isn't plural); however, it will just be an old stream terrace or maybe a glacial moraine.
Being from the south, you are going to have dive into the Hoosier culture head first. Be sure to check out the Tipton Pork Festival in September, and a corm maze in October. Obviuosly there is the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in May, the Brickyard 400 in late July, and the US National at Indianapolis Raceway Park on Labor Day weekend ... not to mention the Kokomo Speedway dirt track.

Thanks for the suggestions. We will definitely check everything you mentioned, especially the pork festival. I've been wondering if I'll be able to find a place to satisfy my BBQ cravings when I get up there.
There seems to be a lot going on throughout the year so it will be exciting to experience it all.

I used to live in southern Indiana, but now I live on the Kentucky/ Tennessee border.
Most of Indiana is flat land. I believe nearly 65% of Indiana is farmland. I think where you are from in Georgia close to or more than 50% of the state is Forest. Most of the large forest and ridges in Indiana are in southern and southeastern Indiana. The Hoosier National Forest has 200,000 acres of forested ridges. Most of the ridges are under 1,000 feet in elevation. Down in north Georgia there are a lot of Mountains over 3,000 feet in elevation.
There are a lot less Deer and Turkeys in Indiana compared with Georgia, however on average the Deer in Indiana have larger body sizes.
The Turkey population in Indiana is low in northern Indiana, but the Turkey population is growing and expanding across the state. The highest Turkey populations in Indiana are south of Interstate 70 in southern Indiana.

Thanks for the detailed reply, Kentucky. It looks like I'll be looking for a place to call home in the woods towards the south. I'm going to do some more research on The Hoosier National Forest; it looks promising.
