Looking good Daniel!! We struggled with the snows also, really need a monster white spread and several e-callers going. How is the Canadas there? Local birds or getting a push of new birds yet?

The hunting is done - went out for ducks this morning - Limit of 32 in a few hours. Lots of mallards, couple teal, one redhead and some pintails. Awesome hunt. The geese are definitely tough this year. Will have tons more pictures when we all get back and exchange them. Will post more in the days ahead. I get a day with some family and friends here in Manitoba and fly back tomorrow night - see you all then.

I just love the nasty batch of birds.
The only problem we (I) had was with a guy I never hunted with that couldn't keep his head in the blind and face covered. I told him twice he needed to cover up and the second time I told him he told me he was covered as good as I was. I'm almost sure we could have killed a good many more canadas that day if he wouldn't have had his shinny face sticking out of the blind. I learned then I don't travel that far and spend that kind of money and hunt with someone I have never hunted with before.
We're looking at the possibility of going to Sask next year. I'm going to try to work a rental deal with a guy who has a house up there and rent his snow decoys. If not we'll be traveling light a dozen duck decoys, a robo or two and a couple dozen canada silos and our blinds. We're probably looking to go the first week in October. Get your name on the "To Go" list ASAP.

I'm wanting to go up there but I don't know about the traveling light part. When I go up there I was thinking more of the line of 1200 snow decoys, maybe 2000+ if I can get the right guys to go up there (hint, hint).

Yeah, if you want to go after the snows... go big or go home! ;D Definitely need electronic callers also, you can use them if you put out an all white spread. 2 vehicles is a must for scouting purposes also, and a large decoy trailer to haul all the gear, maybe 2 trailers if they are small. We rolled up with a 12' v-nose trailer with 20 doz. fullbody snows, blues, specks, 10 doz. fullbody canadas, 4 doz. fullbody mallards, 2 doz. floaters, 4 doz. silouettes, 5 blinds, everyone's gear (waders, guns, boots, and hunting gear), 400 rounds of ammo a piece, food, clothes, camera equipment, rakes, shovels, etc., a dog and dogbox, and we were loaded up for sure!! I wouldn't go back and hunt for the snows without at least twice that amount of snow decoys and several electronic callers, they were just too tough to control without! Now if someone just wanted to duck hunt up there, that would be a piece of cake!

That's why I am looking to rent the guys snow decoys. He was asking $25 per night for lodging and another $10 for the decoys, that's per man. He has enough to make a good spread and we killed lots of snows the two previous years. We would need to take our e-callers. If your only after canadas and ducks it don't take many decoys. His house is located in Govan Sask.

Art, So $35 per man per night for lodging and decoys? Does that include Canada decoys also and duck decoys, or you taking those up? Where is Govan in relation to Saskatoon? Sorry for all the questions, just curious on the trip.

That's what he was charging two years ago for lodging and the use of his snow decoys. He brings his canada and duck decoys home with him. Govan is south/east of Saskatoon and about 1 - 1 1/2 hours north of Regina. We also hunted the Nokomis area which is another 15 - 20 minute's north of Govan. If you look at a map we were just south/west of the Quill Lakes. Last year six of us killed just over 300 birds (snows, canada, ducks, specks and cranes. During our week of hunting we only ran into one other party.
