Got a new H&R 35 Rem Yesterday. So, while waiting for it to come in, I trimmed a case to 1.75 (a little margin just in case a CO might have poor lighting conditions), loaded it up, set it next to a factory, and had to scratch m head at Indiana's laws pertaining to legal cartridges.
Same load, same oal ,same ballistics. Simply a slightly shorter neck!
I know, this horse had be rode to death, but some things just keep on amazing me!

The 35 short does intrigue me. Parson, do you know if the short will work OK in a levergun? I would love to do a levergun in 35 short!

That I do not know. Neck tension seems to be plenty strong, and, in my single shot wont be an issue.
I do believe that there is someone over on Indiana Gun Owners site that uses this round in a Marlin.
If I can find it I'll post a link.
I was going to ream this to 358 Rem or Hoosier, but I think that Indiana may be slowly marching toward allowing conventional rifle rounds.

I have seen quite a few Marlins in .35 Rem for less than $400 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) I wonder if there would be enough bullet to chuck in a lathe and use a modified scissor knurl tool to make a new canalure? A cast gas check bullet might be the ticket, just use one of the other grease grooves.

Parson, 35 Rem to 358 Hoosier is a no-go. The 358 Hoosier shoulder is shorter than the 35 Rem. I thought about doing that with my NEF 35 Rem until I compared cartridges. However, the 35 Rem should be good out to 200 yards if you can put the bullet where it counts.

I wasn't sure about the 35 rem to Hoosier conversion. I know that some have reamed them to 358 win.
I actually use a 357 Maximum, and wont pick up a lot with the 35. But, hey, I bought it as a new 35 rem/444 marlin combo for under $300. I couldn't say "no".

You will pick up more than you expect if you reload the 35 Rem with LeverEvolution powder and shoot the 200 FTX. It is possible to exceed 2200 fps with the FTX pretty easily. I have not played with it a whole lot yet to see just what it is capable of getting to while maintaining its accuracy.

I hope to get a chance to shoot it before too long. I couldn't find brass, so I gotta shoot up some factory ammo before can trim and reload.
I'm trying to settle on a couple of powders. Right now the only suitable powder that I have for the 35 is BLC-2.
Hopefully, I'll find a cast load that shoots well. Those jacketed bullets are pretty costly!

I have never looked into the 35 Remington with trimmed cases until now and it has my interest as well! I love the simplicity of it and I am more than capable of rolling my own ammo for it!! Fun, fun, fun...

jajwrigh,
Brass is really scarce right now. Hopefully, there will be a seasonal run before long.
I was able to find a couple of boxes of Winchester 200 grain at a local Meijer's store, and it wasn't cheap! $30 per box of 20.

I hunted with a 35 Remington short this season. I used a Marlin 336 and it functions fine and shot very well. The biggest problem was trimming the Lee factory crimp die. I didn't have access to a lathe so I ended up grinding it off on my bench grinder. It wasn't nearly the ordeal I thought it would be. The real problem is finding components. The best bullet for the 35 is the old standard Remington 200gr. corelock and it's nearly impossable to find now as well as brass.I intend to stock up when the parts become available. I don't know where the Santas came from.

I'm considering just how to do the factory crimp die myself.
With mine being a single shot, setback wont be a problem, but some loads do perform better with a firm crimp.
Hope you can find bullets! I have a a few 180 gr. xtp bullets, may load some and see how they shoot. My hope is to shoot cast. I'm looking at a couple of different molds.

Midway has 200 grain Remington core lokt round nose in stock as of last night.
I just finished the telephone / credit card transaction with a gun shop in Michigan and should be the proud owner of a sweeeet looking JM stamped 336 in 35 Remmy shortly!! cool
A new project gun for next year. I guess it was meant to be as in the last 24 hours I have found bullets, brass, powder, dies and now the boomstick!
Maybe I can get it all together before the late season arrives!
Only downside is I am gonna have to let my pristine 1894 44mag go now to finance this one. cry
(http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s51/parson48/DSCN0170.jpg)
I believe you can cut / trim the lead tip off of those 180 SSP's and use them in a tube feed.
