In 2012 I put together my own Indiana wildcat, the 350JR. (I never have been much of a "follower"! )
I was "warned" on various sites about wildcatting being addictive!
While the 350JR has been all I and a buddy could ask for a Indiana round I had this "itch" that was starting while it was in the works and finances will dictate the whole shebang and a couple hundred hours of studying SAAMI drawings, me bugging people for old fired brass in a half dozen rounds, micrometer and caliper measurements, cutting and weighing are now over the dam and down the river and........by jove I think I've got it.
LIKE the 350JR, where I went another direction and used belted mag based brass and few felt this was the path to follow, this one is going to be the same (only "worse").
I have NOT ever been much of whiz bang, gain-an-inch-of-trajectory-at-any-method-available type of guy, I have since childhood read, admired, idolized in my youth those "white hunters" of which many pages have been written (dang I wish I had all those articles TO REREAD NOW..... ) who faced the wild's of the Dark Continent. Many of which shouldered some real "canons" in their escapades including Nitro Express doubles, 416 Rigby, etc, etc yet there was an "all round MEDIUM bore" cartridge that fell into the story sooner or later......the 375 H&H.
Bigger bores, heavy bullets and more ****WHAM!**** are what intrigue me.
My infatuation with all this included me BUYING a 375 H&H decades past to "play with". (Wife KNEW FOR SURE I had lost my mind THEN! )
Lingering still is the ".375"......obsession? Ok. Let's call it that. Works for me. I wanted to hunt with a 375, I STILL want to hunt with a .375....and by golly I AM GOING TO MAKE THAT HAPPEN( and the fact that it is a self made project and not the Holland & Holland is kind of a sweet and sour proposition), as long as the creeks don't rise, I get "more broke" than I am ......or the Good Lord calls me home.
A sneak peek if you will indulge me. No details just yet on how it is made (you wouldn't believe me anyway) but..........centered around the 225 grain spire point (bc of .320) or the 235 Speer soft point (bc .317) with maybe a run at the 250 grain Game King (bc .353) for giggles on a case of total capacity in the high 60s (give or take) ESTIMATED velocities will run in the 2500-2600 fps range and could be more (or less) depending upon barrel length and simply what powder does what, with what bullet........in this wildcat, with me loading, etc, etc , etc.
Some of the 358 wildcats will shoot a bit flatter but for the ranges I hunt (250 and under) not enough to give me pause nor make me wish for "more" so in a time most (all?) are looking at faster and flatter.....I went and once again am cutting the path I choose to follow, hoping to fulfill a childhood fantasy while in my 2nd (or 3rd?) childhood
This is in the planning stages only and being put together for these reasons only.
A. I want one
B. I am nuts
Months will pass before I can go full bore and there remains a POSSIBILITY I wont be able to finish it in 2014 but I heard something said once that stuck with me.
"If you aren't planning to DO anything......you are just planning to die", so this is my "THING TO DO".
A name will come to me in time but should you run the ballistics on such a combo you will see quickly that due to the "equal and opposite" stuff we learned in school.........THIS IS GONNA BE A HAMMER on BOTH ends (a bit).
This is not a finished brass shown on the right of my 350JR....but it is very very close, yet a bit "undersized" from what I should get diameter wise.
So this post will fade into the archives but be forewarned.......it will pop up again in time!
Anyone stealing my idea will be frowned upon... ...(scary No?)
Thank you in advance for not lambasting my idea TOO badly. (Won't make any difference anyway. LOL!!)
God Bless
